Good Monday everyone and thanks a bunch for stopping by KWC. Our week is kicking off on a chilly note as we keep an eye on a couple of big storms. Sandwiched between these systems will come a big warm up for the bluegrass state. I talk about all of the above and throw in some winter talk.

Our weather today will feature a fair amount of sunshine across the central and east. A system diving southward across the Mississippi River Valley will deliver clouds and a scattered shower across the west. Temps should run from the upper 40s to lower 50s for highs.

Election Day features partly sunny skies and temps back into the high 40s and low 50s. That same system impacting the west today will slowly work across the southern states and may throw a shower into our far southern counties.

It’s into Wednesday and Thursday that this storm blows up along the east coast. That looks to bring another big blow of nasty weather to areas hit hard by Sandy. Here’s the GFS…

The European Model is a touch slower and stronger with this system. Here’s how it looks for Thursday…

There is NOTHING good that will come from this storm along the east coast. What does it mean for us? It will draw in colder air for Wednesday and Thursday with highs likely staying in the 40s. A few showers will be possible Wednesday and I can’t rule out a snowflake or two trying to mix in across the east.

Once that storm gets out of the way… it’s going to get pretty darn mild around here by the weekend. Highs may hit 70 degrees on a strong southwesterly wind Saturday and Sunday. This is all ahead of a BIG storm developing across the plains states and lifting northeastward. Check out the gigantic temp contrast this storm will work with…

Strong and severe storms will be possible ahead of the front with near blizzard conditions showing up behind it. That’s still about a week away from impacting our weather, but we’ve been talking about it for a while and will continue to do so. This has the look of bringing a healthy line of showers and storms across the bluegrass state with a huge temp crash to follow it. We could even get a wave of low pressure to develop along this boundary and that’s something for us to keep an eye on.

There may be another big storm on the heels of this one as we roll into mid month.

The last cycle of winter forecast models are rolling in and the latest from the GSM takes on the cold look many of the other models have been showing us…

Colder than normal temps and above normal precipitation… hmm. The GSM shows the same thing we’ve been seeing this fall and that is for a huge blocking ridge across Alaska. That helps send cold air streaming southeastward from Canada into the lower 48.

My winter forecast is likely to come next week on WKYT. Spread the word. 😉

Have a great Monday and take care.
