Good Tuesday everyone. It’s Election Day in America and the weather across the bluegrass state looks pretty good and that’s always a good sign for your incumbent weatherdude.  While things are nice today… we have some not so nice times ahead of us as a fast moving system works in from the north.

Our Election Day will start cold with readings in the mid and upper 20s in the north and low and mid 30s in the south and west. Temps by later this afternoon will top out in the upper 40s to low 50s for many. Skies will be partly sunny with more clouds in the south and a small threat for a shower.

Current temperatures

The storm responsible for the shower threat in the south will continue to head toward the Carolina coastline and then develop into a nor’easter. That won’t have a direct impact on our weather, but it will help steer a weaker system in here from the northwest late tonight and Wednesday. That will bring some chilly rains to much of the state and there’s the small chance of a flake or two in the high mountains.

Temps Wednesday will run in the low and mid 40s for highs. A slow rebound will be noted by Thursday with upper 40s and low 50s with skies becoming partly sunny. That warm up kicks into high gear by Friday with temps heading toward 60 degrees. Saturday and Sunday look fantastic with highs nearing 70 degrees for some areas as we keep the sunshine.

As warm as it gets around here, it will get equally as cold across the western part of the country. That will set the stage for a big battle across the plains states and should fire up a couple of deep storms. The first one heads toward southern Canada and drags a cold front our way. That may allow for a secondary storm to form and roll through here early next week. The European Model is all over this…

That will bring an increase in showers and thunderstorms our way by Monday and we will have to keep an eye on those storms. Temps behind the front will drop like a rock and it’s possible we could go from thunder to flakes in a few spots.

This appears to be a nice step down pattern with another system and cold shot lurking toward the end of next week. While I’m watching all this unfold… I’m looking at the pattern and thinking the tropics may not be done just yet.

That’s all I have for the moment. I’m you’re friendly weatherdude and I approve this message.

Take care.
