Good rainy Thursday evening. Your friendly weatherdude and the WKYT folks will be walking in the Lexington Christmas Parade this evening, so my time is short. Let’s break it down:
– Showers will increase tonight and will really pick up on Friday. The heaviest rain will fall across the northern and western parts of the state.
– Rounds of showers and some thunder will carry us through the weekend. Locally heavy downpours will be possible.
– A strong cold front swings through here on Monday with a 20-30 degree temp drop in just a few hours. Some of the models are now showing a secondary wave of low pressure developing along this front to our east Monday night. Here’s the European showing this…
Some runs of the GFS lately have been hinting at this similar scenario, but the GFS is back to full waffle mode. The NAM only goes out to 84 hours and that takes us into Sunday night. The latest run shows this secondary low developing…
The UKMET and NOGAPS show something similar taking place. IF this trend does work out, it would certainly up the snow potential later Monday and early Tuesday. For now… I will stick with my rain to snow shower thoughts until the picture clears up a bit.
Enjoy the evening and take care.
Thanks, Chris. Enjoy the parade! Looking forward to the overnight update.
Interesting discussion out of the NWS out of Louisville for the Monday night early Tuesday morning time frame. The first taste of wintry precip might develop for the area. NWS is not saying it will or will not happen but the chances are there.
Interesting to say the least Chris!! Maybe the models are onto something….hmmm
Lets hope they are! I could use some wintry precip in my life next week 🙂
This secondary low idea is starting to peak my interest! It certainly seems as though the possibilities later this month could provide the elusive white Christmas.
Winter aint happening this year folks. And I’ll gladly put my money where my mouth is. I am willing to predict that this will be the least amount of snow for JKL and Lexington during a winter season. Any takers?
Im your Huckleberry.
well i’m predicting that you’re wrong!!
Hell Yeah not only will I take that silly bet I’ll go double or nothing. Let’s be a realist if your defintion is 30 to 40 inches of snow well you lost your ever loving mind. However if your talking a average Kentucky winter well I’m all in.
The least snowiest winter (Dec-Feb) in Lexington was 0.1 inches in 1931-1932. Do you still stand by your statement?
If that secondary low does form to our south and its a big IF it will for sure make for a wintry forecast come Monday night. Wait and see game with the models. Even as of now it makes for a interesting forecast.
I am probably one of the biggest snow geeks ever to live the face of this earth. BUT………………………I hope we can get through Tuesday with NO SNOW. I am having major surgery Tuesday Morning and I hope road conditions is safe for family coming down, to London, from Ohio. After my surgery and I am home…..May the winter open up and dump us what Tuesday was going to give plus an additional two feet! LOL
Russ, no one on this site wants boo birds flying around here ! Go rain on some other website. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…..
Gee, I love that dark streak of blue in western Kentucky! Unfortunately, that is 96 hours away and will go back’n’forth, north/south, waffle/pancake and every which way ‘tween now and then!
Looks like Lucy has some kickers already 🙂
To FUNNY!!
I bet I still can’t post comments here…..
LOL now I can!
