Good rainy Thursday evening. Your friendly weatherdude and the WKYT folks will be walking in the Lexington Christmas Parade this evening, so my time is short. Let’s break it down:

– Showers will increase tonight and will really pick up on Friday. The heaviest rain will fall across the northern and western parts of the state.

– Rounds of showers and some thunder will carry us through the weekend. Locally heavy downpours will be possible.

– A strong cold front swings through here on Monday with a 20-30 degree temp drop in just a few hours. Some of the models are now showing a secondary wave of low pressure developing along this front to our east Monday night. Here’s the European showing this…

Some runs of the GFS lately have been hinting at this similar scenario, but the GFS is back to full waffle mode. The NAM only goes out to 84 hours and that takes us into Sunday night. The latest run shows this secondary low developing…

The UKMET and NOGAPS show something similar taking place. IF this trend does work out, it would certainly up the snow potential later Monday and early Tuesday. For now… I will stick with my rain to snow shower thoughts until the picture clears up a bit.

Enjoy the evening and take care.
