Good Thursday evening everyone. I warned you this would be a “wow” of a weather day across the bluegrass state. Widespread showers and thunderstorms rolled across the state today with winds gusting to better than 55mph. Those gusty winds will continue and now we crank the snow up tonight and Friday.

A Winter Weather Advisory is out for most of eastern and southeastern Kentucky during this time. I suspect we need more counties in central and northern Kentucky in that advisory. Snow showers and squalls will rapidly increase late this evening and overnight as northwesterly winds kick in.

My snowfall numbers from earlier look pretty good, but I do think areas a bit farther west will also get in on a bit more snow. Travel conditions will go downhill quickly late tonight and Friday morning as roads turn a little icy and visibilities are reduced.

Basically… I have NO changes from the thoughts you’ve been reading about for days.

The storm moving in late Christmas Day into the middle of next week continues to have a threatening look to it. Here’s the European Model…

The morning run of the GFS was very similar to that map and both would give us a pounding snowfall. Again… its several days away, but this certainly passes the look test.

I will have updates as needed. Enjoy your evening and take care.
