Good evening, gang. The weekend system moving in by Saturday night and Sunday is trending a little stronger on some of the models. The NAM is trying to show much more interaction between the northern and southern branches of the jet stream. That would lead to a much more pronounced swath of snow across the state.
This is from the afternoon run of the NAM…
The GFS doesn’t show as much moisture around here and would only give us snow showers and flurries. As always, time will tell.
Take care.
We shall see
Thanks, Chris. GO BIG BLUE!!!!
Looks like temp. profiles would once again be a thorn in our sides even if this storm materializes.
You’ve made me convert to GFS based on what’s happened so far these last 6 weeks. If GFS says no snow, then no snow is what I’ll expect. I don’t recall it being wildly inaccurate yet, unless I missed something.
My money is with the GFS!
I think the GFS has been more “accurate” (relative term) than the NAM, since has foretold the warm air factor. Perhaps an average of the two, or two thirds the weight to the GFS.
I am SO ready to see some snow!!!!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrr
Funny thing is this storm was not even noted 36 hrs ago and now all of a sudden look what pops up on the models. Even if its a possible snow maker it wont last long with the warm up coming next week and the system should be fairly weak.
As pointed out in the last blog postings, you should check out the Morristown, TN NWS forecast discussion from 2:35pm today. They speak of model agreement of phasing jets and place E. Tennessee in the mix which would theoretically put KY in the snow. Their confidence is noted by 40% precip. chances this far out, for Saturday night/Sunday. How can neighboring NWS stations sound so different? Time will tell.
The comments are full of Debbie Downers tonight.
Rumor has it the corp of engineers is ahead of schedule ( hard to believe for a government agency) on the Dam project at Lake Cumberland and will bring the lake up to 710 this spring 1 year ahead of schedule so I say forget winter and bring on summer. Central Kys diss appointing winters have done me in.
Winter just started
14 years of disappointment dampens my normally positive outlook.
15 as of the end of January….
I cannot believe what I am watching the Cardinals are just plain out takening it to the Gators. I would of never thought that would happen. Still early in the game but the Cardinals are simply just out playing the Gators. Not a Cardinal fan but there QB Teddy Bridgewater is a crazy good QB.
GO CARDS!!!!! Hell Ya!!!
Thanks Chris for the update. I hope the overnight models continue to trend in our favor. I would love to have a snow system to track this weekend! 🙂
*crosses fingers* PLEASE (if the possible storm comes to happen) hit SE Ky! Please let the snow dome go away!
someone mentioned that if it snowed on sat. night/sunday time frame that it would just melt off next week due to the warm up……however you must consider 1 thing and that is if it snows then the temp profile would probably be colder than what the models are advertising as of now…..snow pack equals colder temps. remember this possible and long shot storm wasn’t even on the models 36 to 48 hours ago so imo we need to quit worrying about what may happen 7 days from now and start concentrating on the 3 to 5 day forecast. any thing beyond that is just guess work…….mad man henry at accuweather even said today that he did not see any more winter until feb…..well to start with this sounds like a complete joke and 2nd, you have to have had some winter weather in order for it to leave and then come back.
0z models GFS &NAM both have moisture moving into state. It does not look that impressive at this time.
At least one team from this state knows how to beat Florida. Sugar Bowl Champs! That’s right. Go Cards!
Congrats on the victory. Maybe one of these days the snow will defeat the dome.Maybe we can get Strong to coach the GFS.
We need strong to coach Mother Nature!
It must really suck for Joker right now. Gets fired from UK and gets hired as WR coach at Florida. Beaten by UL twice in one season. Ha Ha Joker you suck. Got hired at Florida to give info on UL and can’t deliver. I am sure he will be looking for a job soon.
Joker didn’t coach in the game last night, so your comment is rather uncalled for.
