Storm Tracker Monday

Good Monday to one and all. Our wild weather trend rolls into the new week and takes on a much different look today. We have the potential for strong or severe thunderstorms as a cold front blasts across the bluegrass state. Yep… from a snowstorm Sunday to possible severe weather today.

Hail and high winds will be the main threats from today’s storms that will be more concentrated across central and eastern Kentucky. The best instability looks to be across the southern areas. I have you all set to track today’s action.

Storm Prediction Center…

Current Watches

Possible Watches

Cold air pours in later tonight into Tuesday. That will set us up for an extended period of wintertime conditions. Temps will go back to well below normal and we will likely have a few snow chances along the way. The first may come our way Tuesday night and Wednesday. A more important system is possible by the end of the week.

I will have updates as needed. Take care

    Question:
Why do these rain systems take so long to move through the state? It looks like they should sweep on through from northwest to southeast, but they go from southwest to northeast and just hang around forever.
BUT, if it’s snow, they zip on by at warp speed from northwest to southeast.
It gets so annoying. You think the rain is almost over because it’s clear in Indiana, but no… there is still a full day of rain ahead. :(

These systems come from nearly stationary cold front. They can stall for days and poring buckets of rain on the same place. When its snow, the cold front is colder. The colder, the stronger so it pushes through, meaning less snow. at least in most cases.

Wondering if flood watches are going to be posted. There are already many creek/streams here in Madison County that are at bankfull.

had around 2 inches of snow yesterday and now it is 37 deg with thunder/lightening and heavy rain! Crazy!!!!!!

So much for the rain falling over a couple of days instead of all at once

  6. Mark says:

Severe t-storm watch now issued for a small sliver of south central KY near and along the TN line (including Somerset KY) as well as for virtually all of central TN.

Numerous flood watches, advisories and warnings are now out.

    Please be careful today.

March Madness is not just about basketball.

37 degrees with windows vibrating and dog’s paws skittering across the hardwood floors this morning

Snow up to 3″ just outside of Louisville on Sunday

    73 degrees on Saturday.

It’s supposed to hit 57 degrees today in Louisville. Maybe closer to 50 as the warmer air looks to stay south.

This time last year, temperatures would reach 80 or higher for 5 consecutive days in Louisville.

Very odd to have loud bangs of thunder and temps in the 30′s, isn’t it? Like a full on thunderstorm and temps in the 30s is just very ODD to me!

My cat is terrified of the sound of heavy rain hitting the roof and thunder. He just starts meowing and crying and he jumped in my lap and he was so scared he peed all over me!!!!!! It was quite disgusting and the neat freak in me has been cleaning the past 2 hrs.

Poor kitty. I’m glad none of mine get that upset.

Had scary lightning around 7 am. Was outside feeding the horses and it seemed awfully close. Torrential rain as well. Creeks and ditches were overflowing on my drive to work.

MY DOG WAS SO SCARED SHE ALMOST HAD A SEIZURE. I GAVE HER HER MEDICATION FOR SEIZURES AND PREVENTED IT , BUT SHE CRIED AND HUNG RIGHT ON TO ME UNTIL THE STORMS WERE OVER. IT WAS A LONG MORNING.

Funny CB is referencing a more important storm at the end of the week. There is little about it at all in the NWS site except some reference to the European modele as I recall while other models are keeping it well to our South. Will be intersting to see if anything comes of it! WW

As I was driving on the Mt. Parkway, a ball of lightning came thru my windshield, without shattering it or doing anything to it, and dissipated.in front of my eyes. How is this possible??

  11. Todd says:

All this water will be needed if this summer turns dry like most around here, so I will be ok with the rain for now, Go cats in the NIT, sometimes when you have reached the top you must come down from the mountain to enjoy the next climb, BB NATION!

Had enough of the rain this year. Need some sun and warm. Long overdue.

  13. Israel says:

WOW!! Unbelieveable! The NWS CPC 6-10 day outlook shows the darkest blue bullet eye over Kentucky for WELL BELOW NORMAL TEMPS! Never seen it before! http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/610day/index.php This is the opposite of last year with warm. With the maps and a few possible winter storms , I still wouldn’t doubt the biggest winter storm of the season.
