Happy Easter, Everyone. We have a half and half weather day taking shape across the commonwealth of Kentucky. Showers are blowing across the state early today, but some drying will try to take over by the afternoon. This is ahead of another blast of cold air coming in early in the new week. Hang tough… I am seeing a nice change to warmer air showing up in the near future.
The showers will slowly diminish into this afternoon as winds gust up and temps head toward the low 60s for many areas.
A strong cold front blows in here on Monday with the chance for a late day rain or snow shower. Moisture is rather limited with this front that will be remembered for the cold air it gives us for the first few days of the new month. Highs Tuesday will be in the upper 30s and low 40s and low and mid 40s for Wednesday. Overnight temps will hit the 20s.
The overall weather pattern for the past month and a half has featured a trough in the east and that has allowed cold air to funnel our way from Canada. Over the next week… this pattern will reverse itself…
A MUCH milder pattern will develop later this weekend into next week and that will FINALLY get spring going.
The transition period between the cold and the warmer setup is one to keep an eye on later next week. There could be a slow moving storm system rolling across the southeast and the models are going in that direction for Thursday…
The GFS and European are trying to get together to give us a few nasty days by the end of the week. Here’s hoping that junk stays to our south.
Happy Easter and take care.
Chris please just tell me no tornado or west liberty…
Marsha-There is NO way that Chris or anyone else can tell you that. You have got to try move on from that once in a lifetime event. IT IS going to storm in Kentucky.
If you are so scared than you need to move. I have lived through a tornado in Richmond and you just have to move on. Asking Chris to give you guarantees is unrealistic.
I know that Chris cannot tell me that I’m not stupid yes I am scare every time they say we are going to have storms and hopefully one day I will not be so scare but its hard to forget when you have to be reminder everyday we go though west liberty it’s not so easy to just say get over it already some people on here are just rude I think I will just keep my thought to myself because Chris blog sure Is not the place to comment I used to love this blog always love to comment on it but I think maybe I need to just stay off here Chris I am sorry but some people really hurt your blog I remember when all of us used to get on here and talk about the weather joke around we used to really have Great time on here, but I am really done with it…..
Have a Happy Easter everyone
@Marsha
I know how it feels to be scared, I have a deep troubling fear too, but there comes a point where you gotta live your life day by day don’t worry about these things. Just be prepared for anything.
But what I have researched, the likelihood of seeing a tornado is rare, I do not know about in the present since it’s been crazy the past few years. I’ve read, and this is just a statistic. I know people who still haven’t seen them in there sixties. It doesn’t mean they won’t ever, but what you saw last year was rare. From what I’ve sat and read and thought about, that most tornadoes around here are usually F1s to F2s, and occasionally the stronger ones like last year. Just keep your head up, I’m trying to live my life and quit letting it control me.
Don’t get me wrong, I still worry a lot, but there are brighter days ahead. Accuweather forecast basically says the same thing as last year, they don’t know. It’s just a prediction, nothing more. Don’t get me wrong, they know what they’re talking about, but we will never know until it happens, so just be prepared.
Thanks James….
Tornadoes have occurred in all 50 states.
Exactly! It does not matter where you are, there will always be a chance.
And if it’s not tornadoes, it’s something else. Move to Seattle or San Diego and virtually no tornadoes, but then you have earthquakes!
Move to Memphis, and you get both tornadoes and earthquakes 😉
Congrats to the Cards men! Our thoughts and prayers are with Kevin Ware, horrific injury.
And the Card women are leading big bad Baylor at the half in their NCAA tournament!
I’m glad spring is comming back hopefully its here to stay
Thanks, Chris. Light at the end of the tunnel! Glad to hear it! Maybe Spring is finally coming. I just hope we have spring instead of going straight to summer. And I hope the lingering cold hasn’t hurt the trees and other plants. Just glad to hear the cold is leaving.
Happy Easter, everyone.
looks like the sun will do a no show today, better things to come after our little cool down early week, can’t wait until 70s and may a 80 coming soon!
As for people being scared of tornados, Frankfort had a bad one in 1974 when I was a child, their hasn’t been on since, 39 years, they don’t happen in anyone place very often!
One since 😉
Sun has made it out after all, looks to be a nice afternoon now, YES!
Marsha, if it makes you feel any better, just remember that MOST folks who live in one location for a long period of time—-tornadoes and being hit directly by one are USUALLY a once in a lifetime event, and some people are fortunate enough to never be in the direct path of one. I did live nearby when the tornado hit Kirksville and had to drive past the damages done to a community that I saw every day on my way to work. It didn’t hit financially, but emotionally, it hit just as hard.
Just try to remember that the great majority of storms do not produce devastating tornadoes like the one West Liberty saw, and the atmospheric conditions that existed that day are also very rare.
When I was a teenager (a typical teen that in my case kind of shunned weather warnings), a twister near me took a life at Cleveland Tennessee in 1998 (same day as Nashville’s infamous downtown tornado). I went from scoffing at warnings to being a bit stunned. Took some time for the shock to run its course, and enough remains that I take bad wx seriously, even to the point of becoming a trained National Weather Service spotter.
Thankfully, tornadoes are even more rare for eastern KY compared to the rest of the state. Thus, March 2 2012 is that much more of an anomaly. Kind of like what the June 23 1944 outbreak is to West Virginia.
Back to back Final Fours. Lets win it all this time. Go Cards! Win it for Kevin.
…and the Card women are on verge of huge upset over Baylor. Looks like Kevin is inspiring play in Oklahoma City like he did in Indianapolis.
The last (and only) time both men and women from same school won NCAA was UConn in 2004. Hmm…, could it be about to happen again?!?!
Great day to be a Louisville fan.
