Good Monday and welcome to the month of April. The month is off and running on a cold note as we see some of that March pattern hanging around this week. This is an impressive blast of chill blowing in, but the pattern is about to take a much needed turn to mild.
A cold front continues to drop in from the north early today. This may produce a rain shower that may mix with a flake of snow later in the day. The moisture with this front is rather limited and I don’t expect to see much of anything.
The temps will be the big story with highs today in the mid and upper 40s with overnight lows dropping into the 20s. That will set us up for a very chilly day on Tuesday as thermometers struggle to get past 40 degrees. 20s will be back Wednesday morning with highs back into the 40s.
A southern storm system continues to look like it will influence our weather by Thursday. Chilly showers will be possible, but that action may work out of here on Friday…
That would then set the stage for a much milder weekend with temps hitting the 60s for highs. Next week has the potential to bring 80 degree temps in here for a day or two. This is part of an overall setup that should feature milder than normal temps…With the good will come the bad and that will be the start of a period of stormy weather that will carry us through May and into the summer.
Have a great Monday and take care.
You keep saying stormy. Does that mean tornado weather?
What CB is saying by “stormy” is the weather pattern is looking like it will get active in the Ohio Valley. The threat of storms could it be severe yes could there be tornado’s its possible typical spring time weather in the Ohio Valley.
April is indeed climatologically the most active month for twisters in our area.
And there are hints that this particular spring could be rather active for severe storms, again for our area.
Well, before we get to the stormy, we got to get this cold out of the way. The current forecast low for Lexington on Wednesday is 24. That would tie the record low for April 3.
Thanks, Chris. Wow! Hopefully we can get through this week and get some warmer weather in here, finally. Hope we do get spring weather though, and not go straight to summer temps. I am not going to complain about temps warming up. NO, I don’t want severe weather, either, but I realize it is part of springtime in KY. Lets hope that the tornados stay away from us. I can deal with a warm rain right now better than a cold one, but would opt for fair skies and light winds for a few days. Make it a great day, everyone!
Here, here!
Doing some preliminary research, our focus may have been on how cool it was around here. However, March 2013 may go down as one of the driest months ever for many areas of the country.
Looking ahead, the April 6-14 time period shows a decent chance for above normal temperatures for our region. It’s about time. However, above normal precipitation amounts may accompany the warmer pattern. That figures.
Really looking forward to warmer temps just not severe weather. But severe storms are a part of spring weather. Hopefully no greatest rhreat days are ahead for us.
Thanks chris
