Good Wednesday, everybody. Thanks for stopping by KWC and making us your home for all things weather in the bluegrass state. Right on cue, rounds of storms rolled across the region Tuesday evening and a few more will rumble through here today. The storms will be accompanied by a surge of summer air that will come crashing down by the end of the week.
Temps today will range from the upper 70s to low 80s, but many thermometer readings will be dictated by scattered storms. Any boomer that goes up today may contain hail and high winds to go along with heavy rain and dangerous lightning.
Thursday looks like a fantastic day with highs well into the 80s. Gusty southwesterly winds will blow and that will set the stage for a long of strong, possible severe, thunderstorms Thursday night and Friday morning. That action will be along another mega cold front that will drop our temps waaaaaay down. Here’s how the GFS sees this playing out…
Wind will be very gusty as the chill replaces the warmth. Check out how extreme the temp change will be…
Temps fall into the 50s behind the front on Friday and may stay there for highs Saturday. Lows may drop close to the freezing mark over the weekend.
Milder breezes will take us closer to normal by Sunday and Monday. That will be ahead of yet another cold push of air that arrives by the middle of next week…
That may be preceded by another round of strong storms.
Have a great day and take care.
Boy! You are just full of good news today, aren’t you? 😉 Oh well, at least we are getting some warmer temps, even if we do seem to be on a seesaw ride with them. We were fortunate last evening, as we did not see any of the strong storms. We did get a thunderstorm sometime in the night, but it seemed more like a garden variety type, at least at our house. Standing out on our deck last night, we were able to see the lightning that was up around Nicholasville. And it was pretty bright. Also saw a pretty good show looking to the south east.
And it was clear as a bell overhead.
I know that whatever pops up, you will be right here and on the air, giving us the heads up and warnings. Thanks, Chris, for all you do. Have a great Wednesday, everyone.
Flash Flood Warning sirens just went off in Berea for Madison.
Just going by sound, and not by looking at the radar as there might have been technical breaks along the way, we’re going on 11 hours straight of thunder and/or lightning. I honestly cannot remember when that’s happened before.
Chris, just to let you know, Williamsburg, Kentucky is being slammed right now with rain, lightning, thunder and wind. Hope it doesn’t last that long.
More flash flood warnings are popping up in eastern Kentucky. Be careful everybody. Turn around, don’t drown.
Storm Prediction Center is considering a new severe t-storm watch for much of western Kentucky (and central Tennessee). SPC is giving a 40% probability of a watch this morning. As Chris said, storms with heavy rain, strong damaging winds and hail will be a possibility all day.
Meanwhile, severe wx with tornadoes is likely later today for parts of Oklahoma and Kansas; that stuff will arrive in our neck of the woods later this week but perhaps with lower chances of twisters
Clouds and cool weather here in Frankfort, unless sky’s clear, instability will be much less today in my area?
numousous reports of flooding and people needing rescued from being trapped in flood waters, and some possible injurys. this is in bright shade area of clay co. reported earlier but phone must not sent post.
worst FLAS flooding going on now in YEARS in CLAY COUNTY and surrounding areas.
and the 12 clock news barly talk bout it.lol sad indeed.
but there be a 25 mile hour winds forcasted and its a SEVERE WEATHER DAY. no break in to regular programming either all morning. there still some people in this world with no COMMON SENSE, meaning they need help/direction from the SO CALLED EXPERTS at the TV stations whwn it comes to LIFE THREATENING situations.
im wondering if this was happening in LEX/GTOWN areas if there been more coverage so far??
does the hillbilly area of KY not deserve the same coverage during BAD WEATHER events than the rest.
just saying the weather coverage at ALL STATIONS including WYMT has DROPPED THE BALL on this one. WYMT reeally erks me the most as its your VIEWING AREA!!
I tried posting about flooding situation around 9 this morning. Post wouldnt go through.
It has been storming all morning with heavy rain in Corbin just a little more than a few storms.water is over the road at my house.
Clouds and 60s, where is this 80 degree weather for central KY ????
Moderate risk for severe weather late Thursday/early Friday for far west KY. Damaging squall line is a real possibility. Hopefully, it weakens as expected while pushing eastward, but I’m not too sure.
