Good Tuesday, everyone. We have a nice warm up pushing into the state for the next few days. This will take our temps toward the 80 degree mark for the next few days. The big question of the week… will the good stuff be able to flex some muscle and hang around into Derby Weekend? It’s may not go without a fight.
Today will start with some fog and end with mostly sunny skies. Thermometers will warm into the upper 70s to around 80 degrees. Wednesday looks even better with low 80s for highs with the sunshine hanging around.
We start to see some changes showing up by Thursday as scattered showers and thunderstorms develop… especially in the west. Temps may still hang around 80 degrees.
The bowling ball area of low pressure across the plains continues to be the pain in the side to forecasters around here and across much of the country. These things have a mind of their own and are tough for the models to figure out until a day or two before. The newest runs of the models are a bit farther west with where this low sets up. Still… that would be a moist flow across our part of the world. That shows up well on the GFS Ensembles…
That may mean a milder scenario, but a fairly wet one with showers and storms pinwheeling around that stubborn area of low pressure. Again… it’s all about when and where this upper level system hangs out. That will continue to be the focus of the forecast in the coming days.
Once that system gets out of the way… some of the models warm us up ahead of another powerful cold front for the following week…
This continues to be a crazy spring pattern. Have a great day and take care.
Thanks, Chris. I will take any good news I can get about the weather right now. But, is this what we are going to have to deal with the rest of spring? A couple of warm days followed by storms and then unseasonable cold for a few more? I can handle the rain even, but when its a cold rain, and then cold days to follow, it gets disheartening. Thank you so much for keeping us updated the way you do. (Just wish you could actually influence the weather, instead of just giving us the heads up on it.) 😉 Have a great Tuesday, everyone.
I really don’t think you have to worry about cold much longer.
At least severe storms have stayed out of the vast majority of the state, thus far.
ur DERBY winner is ORB
ORB/ all/Will Take charge, REVOLUTIONARY,N Invasion, Overanylize tri
Yep, he looks to be the real deal. Hope he likes an off track.
The good thing about this chilly weather that’s been sticking with us for a while is that the severe weather season is not as bad
I have a feeling that were going to turn around sometime this May into a very severe stormy pattern across the country, but those are thoughts that hopefully aren’t going to come true. Thanks CB for all you do.
Bottle this weather today in Frankfort, sunny 75 degrees, calm winds perfect in my book!
Yeah–I’m with you. Up to 78 now in Lawrenceburg. Was a nice, crisp 44 this morning. That’s a PERFECT day! The house cools down at night, warms up during the day, and you can do anything you want outside. Good on the utility bills too!

Well, April is going to go into the books slightly warmer and slightly wetter than normal. Given the cold March, spring is so far colder than normal overall.
April Average temps, past five years (Using Lexington data)
2013: 55.6
2012: 55.9
2011: 58.2
2010: 59.4
2009: 55.5
Normal Average for April: 55.3
In other words, this was not a cold April. It continued a trend of “Above normal” April’s that has persisted since at least 2009. In 1997, for example, the average April temp was 49.1!
