Good Monday and welcome to a busy weather week. Things are starting off on a tropical note with very warm temps and high humidity levels. All of this comes crashing down later this week as a strong cold front brings a big cool down our way. Between now and then may get a little bumpy as storms fire up.
Temps today will hit the mid and upper 80s across the entire state. Some areas have a shot at the first 90 degree reading of the year. Throw in high humidity levels and the sweat index will be way up there. An isolated thunderstorm will most certainly blow up in the heat and humidity.
Tuesday will be another very warm and humid day with temps back into the mid and high 80s. There’s a better shot at getting showers and storms going by the end of the day and the models are hinting at the possibility of some big boomers. Here’s the NAM Simulated Radar for Tuesday Evening…
The GFS is heading in that direction for the same time…
All of this is part of a massive severe weather outbreak across the plains states. This will likely provide us with the potential for strong or severe storms from late Tuesday into Wednesday and Thursday.
Much cooler and drier air swings in for Friday with temps in the upper 60s and low 70s for highs. This pleasant weather will continue into the first half of the Memorial Day Weekend. Things may try to turn stormy by Sunday or Monday as the battle zone of weather tries to set up across our region…
Have a great day and take care.
Heat index around 90 in Frankfort with dew points in the low 70s, I knew this ugly humidity would show up sooner than later, looking forward to the 70 degree weather since we have missed spring so far!
ive had plenty spring since early april in clay county ky. Few cool days here and there but most days have been warm. Nithing compared to march. may has been really warm also, with a few uppER 80S already. Today seemed to be most muggiest so far this year.
Western/central parts of KY and TN are now under a slight risk of severe t-storms for late Tuesday. At this time, looks like there won’t be quite as much shear as what Oklahoma had Sunday; perhaps at most a more isolated twister or two for us. Hail and damaging winds may be the risks with the higher chances Tue. Stay tuned!
Wish i could watch the Wx Channel right now…

I was live streaming KOCO during the event yesterday and today. I’m glued to the web.

My cousins house in Moore is gone. Said the place is nuts, and you can’t drive anywhere. There house made it through the Ef 5 that hit the area in 1999.
Correction, it suffered minor damage. A quarter mile away everything is leveled. He said the damage in the town is about a mile wide. Nothing in the city center is there.
Glad your cousins are ok, Lincoln.
Brings back uncomfortable memories of April 27 2011. The Ringgold Georgia tornado (which left empty home foundations that were void of even debris) crossed into Tennessee very near my parents. It was a helpless feeling until finally hearing they were ok.
I later saw the incredible destruction which was about eight miles from my parents’ home.
Horrible pictures. I am so thankful that on March 2, 2012 so many businesses and schools in Central and Eastern Kentucky chose to send students and workers home ahead of the tornado outbreak. Hard to say what the death toll will be in Oklahoma today. Hopefully not as bad as Joplin.
And luckily, most of the towns hit last year weren’t as large as Moore is.
24 children are reported dead from the school that was destroyed. 🙁
Absolutely devastating what happened in Oklahoma today
Praying for everyone. P
A new tornado watch for far western KY. It’s until 5am, so it’s particularly important to have a weather alert radio or some other alert device while you sleep.
