Good Thursday, folks. Our summer pattern is slowly giving way to a stormy one that will carry us into the first part of June. Showers and storms will be rather scattered early today, but will ramp up a notch later today into Friday and then again for the upcoming weekend. That’s when some of the storms may become strong or severe.
Very warm and humid weather will persist today with highs back into the mid and upper 80s. The highest chances will be across the central and western parts of the state. Here’s your regional radar…
Moisture continues to move our way from the western Gulf of Mexico. This will lead to an increase in scattered storms into Friday and the models are getting pretty wet for the western half of the state. Take a look at the impressive rain totals from the GFS through Friday…
There’s a good supply of moisture and the heavy rain threat will need to be monitored over the next few days and into the weekend. We may also get a strong storm or two to blow up today and Friday. A better threat for strong and severe thunderstorms will be with us over the weekend. That’s when a powerful cold front works our way from the west…
The models continue suggest a very active pattern over the next two weeks…
Have a wonderful Thursday and take care.
Some storms firing up south of Bowling Green, a little rain would be nice in Frankfort, we have missed most of it lately.
A brief thundershower a while ago here near Nashville. Perhaps a quarter of an inch of rain (my office is in an interior location with no windows so this is a best guess). Anyway, enough to have puddles and some runoff.
Meanwhile, a tornado watch in effect for parts of southern Illinois and southeast Missouri, with a few ongoing severe t-storm warnings. Radar showing this wx moving NNE so it won’t directly effect KY, but perhaps a hint of what KY and TN are in store for in the coming days.
New tornado watch just issued minutes ago for all of eastern Arkansas.
This watch is just across the Mississippi river from counties in far western Tennessee and very close to far western Kentucky.
There have been apparent tornado touchdowns in western Arkansas with damage and injuries. Hopefully news updates from Arkansas won’t get any more grim.
This system will slowly creep our way the next few days.
