Good Thursday, folks. We have a series of clippers dropping into the state over the next several days. These will bring rounds of light snow our way and we are likely to see some accumulations from these. The overall pattern continues to head toward one that will feature a harsh period of winter for much of the country.

The first round of light snow arrives this afternoon and evening across and is being pushed by a lot of upper level energy. This upper level energy continues to swing through here into Friday and it’s looking quite stout…

GFSThat upper level support is likely to fire off some pretty intense bands of snow later tonight into Friday. Light accumulations are a pretty good bet and slick spots may develop on area roads. Winds are going to be super gusty during this time.

The next system swing in by Saturday evening and is being pushed by another strong lobe of upper level energy…

GFS 2That is likely to bring another round of light snow our way into Saturday night. Again… accumulations will generally be light with an inch or two possible over the course of the next 3 days.

After a short-lived spell of nice weather later Sunday into Monday… an even deeper system drops into the region on Tuesday. This trough is going to try to bring another round of snow our way and may even crank up a storm along the east coast.

The GFS is really jumping on the cold air behind it…

That is likely the tip of the iceberg… pun intended. This pattern will grow even colder and snowier for the final week of January into February.

Let’s get back to the light snow moving in today. I have you set to do some tracking…

Here are some tracking tools…
