Good Sunday, folks. Our start to the weekend was as ugly as advertised with high winds, heavy rain, cold temps and some snow. Areas of eastern Kentucky are likely to wake up to a light snowfall. Thankfully, this won’t last as milder air moves in this afternoon and hangs around into the start of April.
Thermometers today will hit the 50s for much of the region as the sun returns. Areas of the west may flirt with 60 degrees before all is said and done.
Temps surge well into the 60s for Monday and a few spots may hit 70. Winds will gust up ahead of a weak front passing to our north on Tuesday. This may bring isolated showers to parts of the state, but most of the moisture looks to stay to our north.
Temps hit the low to mid 70s for Wednesday as our weather pattern begins to crank up a notch. Scattered thunderstorms will roll in from the west and this action will increase from there. Heavy rain and strong thunderstorms will be possible through Friday. You can see the waves of storms showing up on the GFS:
That’s a pretty healthy storm system moving in and will have a sharp temperature gradient to feed upon. The mild temps we get for most of the week will turn chilly for the weekend…
Another significant system may follow that one up for early in the following week.
This is a pattern that is itching to return to a colder than normal one for the middle of April. That isn’t surprising given the past 6 months, but it’s not what any of us really want to hear.
Have a great Sunday and take care.
Pouring the Snow in Pikeville!!!!
have a good dusting of snow here this morn!!!!!!
CONGRATULATIONS CHRIS! Great to see that you were recognized for what we already knew. Best in the state.
Does anyone have information on wind speeds and gusts for yesterday, in Somerset area? Winds were amazing, at times.
I was watching a local met in Cincinnati this morning and they put up a calendar showing the high temperature in Cincinnati every day in March thus far. I thought it was pretty cool…every Friday in March was above normal while every Sunday (including today, it appears) was below normal. Only one day was above 70.
Monday through Wednesday are going to be awesome!
Looks like we’ll finally see some above normal weather heading into April! Four of the past five months have been 3 degrees or more below normal.
