Good Tuesday. Old Man Winter has bullied his way back into the bluegrass state and is delivering some ugly stuff. A period of light snow is starting off a very cold few days that will likely feature a hard freeze across the entire region.
Here’s a breakdown…
– Light snow and flurries will be across central and eastern Kentucky early in the day. Some light accumulations are possible on elevated and grassy surfaces.
– Temps today will start in the low 30s and only recover to around 40 for central and eastern parts of the state. 40s will be noted in the south and west.
– A HARD FREEZE is likely tonight into Wednesday morning. Thermometers will drop into the low and middle 20s. Green thumbs are on alert!!
– Wednesday will see sunny skies with temps hitting the 50-55 degree mark for highs.
– Thursday and Friday will see the 60s back in town. Easter weekend looks a bit unsettled with a chance for a shower or thunderstorm. Temps should be a little below normal.

Ugly. That word cracks me now. I love these seasonal growing pains. The wind was really up a bit ago. Great sleeping weather.

A period of light snow is starting off “a very cold few days”?
It’s gonna get cold tonight, I dread it. But we’ll be right back into the 70s by Thursday!
Wow! Woke up to a suprise this morning in Lexington. There is actually accumulating snow! This is crazy and it’s mid April!!! It looks very weird on the spring plants and blooms. I was NOT expecting accumulations, but it looks like mother nature proved me wrong! How much? Looks like a few tenths or half an inch, not much but a lot for April standards! Winter is officially over today, to have more snow after today would be crazy insane and very rare. Have a good day everyone and enjoy the snow you have until next season (I think) 🙂
Not as crazy as you might think. As recently as 2005, we had a coating of snow on April 24th. It officially went down as a trace, but it was more in some areas of town. Also, the record low for tomorrow morning in 20, and it is actually 17 and 15 for the two days after that.
Yeah the record lows I can still understand. Do you know when were the last 3 times it snowed after April 14, maybe last measurable snow after that date? One of them in 2005 (9 years ago) like you said.
The following dates had measurable snowfall (a trace or more) this time of year in the past 35 years or so.
April 18, 1983 (4 inches in around Bowling Green/Paducah)
April 26, 1989
May 7, 1989 (Derby Day sleet/snow)
April 17, 2001
April 13, 2004
April 24, 2005
I was surprised too this morning. The snow on the tulips and the daffodils is very pretty. Also the lime green tree buds covered in snow really pop in front of the gray sky. How can anyone not see such a day as glorious?
A big AMEN to that! 🙂
The grumblings and whining of Team Spring resonate in the background like old fashioned static on a television. Glorious.
This snow is very sticky, so people use some common sense and wipe off your head lights and tail lights as well before driving.
Yeah because you’ve never complained on here. 😉
Menifee County-That “light accumulation” is now a uniform ground-cover, and still snowing!
Yeah, its really coming down in Perry Co. Not very often you see it snow this hard in mid april.
Well I won’t be mowing today. Crow crow
Say goodbye to the pretty blooms for the rest of spring, they will turn brown and fall off after today, trees with blooms will be hard hit with temps in low 20s! Maybe this is what Chris means by UGLY!
No way. Nature is tough. Spring will spring right back.
Spring will, blooms won’t!
I guess we’ll have to let ourselves be surprised.
It snowed a good bit here this morning. The temp was showing 33 degrees at the time.It was very pretty but I know the growing things will suffer after tonight.I am really glad we didn’t get much snow.I don’t think I have ever seen a heavier snow and it packs together like a rock. The pear tears with all the leaves were sagging big time.We still have some on the ground and hanging onto the leaves but it dripping so its melting.
Thinking there just might be enough water left on the roadways for them to be slick tomorrow morning with the cold overnight temps.
Sky’s have cleared and winds are slowing, that’s not good, low 20s look very possible now if not colder in frankfort, god help our farmers and sinsitive plant life!
