Good Thursday, everyone. Warmer air is pushing into the state and will bring a round of showers and storms our way later tonight. This is the first shot being fired by a very busy pattern that looks to be with us to close out the month of April.
Temps will surge into the 70s today on a gusty southwesterly wind kicking up. This is ahead of a weak front that moves across the state tonight and that’s what brings the round of storms. These will be quick movers and should be out of the state by late Friday morning. I can’t rule out some strong or severe storms coming from this line as it sweeps eastward.
Here’s what you need to track the action…
Today’s Risk Area
Current Watches
Friday afternoon will find sunny skies returning with readings back into the 70s. We hang on to those 70s through the upcoming weekend. The next threat for storms arrives late in the day Sunday, especially in the west. This kicks off a stormy period that could deliver rounds of strong and severe storms through Monday and Tuesday. The models are also trying to put down a lot of rain. The European Model is loaded with rainfall through the end of next week. Check out the numbers…
That is certainly something for us to keep a very close eye on.
Something else to watch out for is the upper level low swinging in for the middle and end of next week. Damp and chilly weather is possible with a setup like this…
Have a great Thursday and take care.
Yes, it is spring and I understand the models are terrible at handling certain things but I have never seen the models flip flop this much even in winter! Even the “more reliable” Euro model is flip flopping crazier than I have ever seen before! Heck, the GFS is even a little more consistent than the Euro. We could have anything from 80s and wet/dry to 40s wet/dry.
Thanks Chris. Looks like we are going to have a pot pourri of weather over the next week. I have to believe that the damp and chilly will win out because its dogwood winter. While we could use some rain, I really don’t want as much as the models are spitting out, at least not all at one time. Ah well, whatever. Everyone have a great Friday Eve!
As CB predicted, rather gusty conditions starting to prevail across our area. Just had a 20 mph gust in Nashville. 29 mph in Jonesboro Arkansas.
T-storms now popping up over Missouri and Arkansas, should reach us this evening and overnight. SPC indicates that damaging winds will be the threat with the highest chances, with lower chances of both isolated twisters and large hail.
But SPC remains very concerned about the next system for the weekend and early next week. As touched on before, the plains states could get strong/long-tracking tornadoes. Even if this system becomes somewhat less tornadic when it reaches us, this is still a good time to get your early warning alert radios, smart phones, etc ready.
Been a really nice day here today.Around 40 degrees this morning but 76 now.We aren’t getting any winds yet.Mostly sunshine all day.
Not really sure what to expect. Some of the sites have us back in the low 60s for highs by next Thursday. The storms have me very concerned.Certainly don’t want to hear the word “Tornado” being forecast for anyone. So far it seems we have a small chance for a quick thunderstorm early tomorrow.Sure hope that is the worst we get.
