    Looking good this morning!
Perhaps in the future we will have the ability to pop out a specific radar screen for a larger view?
    I’m addicted to radar ๐Ÿ™‚

Glad to see First Alert Defender on the blog, Chris. But for some reason, I cant get it to load on my screen. What am I doing wrong?

  5. Basketballrocks says:

  8. Mark says:

Knowing Chris Bailey and WKYT, I bet that years from now WKYT will have the first phased array weather radar of any Lexington tv station!

In the meantime, First Alert Defender should give many years of good service. I don’t think even Nashville tv stations have anything like First Alert Defender (but then again Nashville has a National Weather Service radar, where as Lexington is farther away from NWS radars at Louisville and Jackson KY).

BTW, the NWS radars at Wilmington OH and Charleston WV are about to have their dual-pol upgrades (a few KY counties are under jurisdiction of either Wilmington or Charleston). Of course, First Alert Defender is a dual-pol radar.

    Wilmington’s upgrade starts August 23:

The Charleston upgrade will commence after Wilmington is finished.

NWS Louisville (radar located at Ft Knox) is currently scheduled for upgrade in late October, followed by NWS Jackson KY. However, there are currently only three radars that are ahead of Louisville inwhich upgrade work has not started yet. In the same way the upgrade of Wilmington will start a few weeks ahead of schedule, it’s possible Louisville and Jackson could be upgraded early as well.

NWS Paducah is scheduled for upgrade in January 2013. Ft Campbell KY and Evansville radars (both used by NWS Paducah) will follow.

All Tennessee radars (Memphis, Nashville, Morristown) were upgraded earlier this year, thus many KY counties near the TN line already have peripheral dual-pol coverage.

LOL. So where is the person now…who was on my case calling me rude for asking for the First Alert Defender on this site??

  14. Wayner says:

I use to follow your blog a lot when you were in my home town. I know that you are in KY now but I had to check your blog to see if your predictions are adding up to what our “new” guy is predicting….and it does not! He is predicting 1-2″ and your first call has us in the 1-6″. What would be a realistic amount to look for?

  15. Joyce says:

The wind in South Mercer county is bad…

  16. Neil says:

This is especially depressing since I was just visiting friends in Columbus, IN, where they have better than a foot of snow on the ground and are expecting another 3-5″ tonight.

  17. Nate in Nicholasville says:

Happy New a year everyone! 34 and a COLD RAIN here in Nichvegas…nothing to see here

  18. Carl l. Fox III says:

we miss having you here in huntington, you were the best and most accurate weatherman we ever had here!

  19. JJTeach says:

Anybody else just love the fact that MJ is SO JEALOUS of Chris??? ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s so entertaining!

  20. Carol Hansen says:

I listen to you all the time I trust this coverage I do not trust the weather channel they can never make up their mind what is going on.

  21. Terry says:

First Alert Defender radar used to appear for me on this page with the other radar images, but no longer. Did I miss an update that I needed to make, or what happened? Thanks.

  22. Jim Atkins says:

Great radar !! My go to weather site !!

  23. Chris Mercer says:

That is an interesting looking radar at the moment. Such a thin line of precipitation. Almost looks like a squall line would in severe weather season, of course without the intensity.

  24. Vickie in Glasgow says:

Heavy sleet in Glasgow, cars iced over as well as driveways and sidewalks. 31 right now…….messy!

  25. Rebecca Dumont says:

The radar is looking a bit nasty northwest of us. Any thoughts on what we here in Southeastern Kentucky can expect later tonight…?

  26. George Randolph says:

Looking forward to the cold and snow! Hoping for a record winter of snow this year!

  27. Bryan Hawkins says:

Please send me all the emails you send out daily

  28. rolo says:

DRY SLOT starting to take over bigger area.

  29. Quintin says:

Down poring rain in western Paducah

  30. Terry says:

The soon to be infamous winter storm “Helena” is grazing far SE KY tonight…already exceeding an inch in Harlan and going strong!

  31. Karen says:

What the heck is going on here …? These not up to date responses to our weather?

  32. Rolo says:

man love my radar, keeps olew rolo updated to the minute. WOOHOOO

  33. Terry says:

I received an school thumping down here in Harlan over the weekend—rain that is! 4.64 inches at the house with a lot of flooding issues for SE KY.

  34. Rob says:

PLEASE get the KENTUCKY WEATHER RADAR repaired. It has been on hold since 12 October 2018. That is the only one I can depend on.

  35. The Radar is stuck again. Please repair.

  36. Robbie says:

Would someone please fix the Kentucky Weather Radar. It has been showing the same weather since Dec 13, 2018.

  37. Terry says:

Well, it ended up being the third consecutive super soaking February in SE KY. Although, I failed to record a foot plus of rainfall for the third straight February, I still recorded over 10 inches and actually had a worse flood event at the beginning of the month with a 5.52 in storm event (most fell within 24 hours between Feb 5th and Feb 6th, 2020).

Here are my “Rainuary” states for February from 2018 through 2020; I live in Harlan, KY:

    February 2018….12.24 in
    February 2019….12.83 in
    February 2020….10.53 in

NOTE: Black Mt Mesonet did record over a foot again, so at least part of Harlan CO high up did receive over a foot for three straight Februaries, WOW!
