Good evening, everyone. We have a cold night ahead of us across the region, but this air isn’t going to stick around long. Another spring surge is on the way for the weekend, and that will bring about another period of above normal temperatures.

Temps out there tonight drop into the upper teens to low 20s then may rise some by daybreak. Gusty winds from the southwest will boost temps toward the 50s in the afternoon. The weekend will feature temps heading toward the 60s, but with some clouds and scattered showers around.

The showers and thunderstorms will increase by Sunday evening as a cold front moves in…

A shot of colder air sweeps in for early next week. That’s when we turn our attention toward a couple of systems trying to hook up. A system dives in from the northern branch of the jet stream and tries to merge with a system coming from the southern branch.

The current European Model shows these two hooking up just to our east…

The faster those two hook up, the better the chance that grows into a big winter storm system. That’s certainly something to keep a close eye on.

The overall setup going forward will see that system give way to another warm up, then another big shot of cold. You can see this well on the GFS Ensembles…

Could be interesting with that type of a setup.. both with winter and the thunderstorms.

Enjoy the evening and take care.
