Good Monday, everyone. Things are starting off on a very cold note, with frost and a light freeze for some this morning. This cold pattern will give way to a stormy one that will bring heavy rains our way over the next few days. Additional showers and storms later this week will bring another round of chilly weather by the weekend.
Let’s start with today and roll forward. Temps in the central and east will start in the upper 20s to low 30s and finish in the 65-70 degree range. The west will see readings in the low 70s.
Clouds will increase later today as warmer air begins to push in from the southwest. The leading edge of this warm air will fire up rounds of northwest to southeast moving thunderstorms for the central and eastern parts of Kentucky. These storms can be on the loud side and produce heavy rains over the next few days.
Here’s a look at the areas most at risk…
Rain totals of 1″-2″ will be possible, with locally higher amounts. Recent runs of the NAM would indicate a flash flood threat…
The GFS has been playing catch up on this, but it’s getting there…
That arm air can only get so far north and east into Kentucky, setup up a boundary with additional shwoers and storms along it. That mess may end with a decent low pressure working across our region to start the weekend…
Guess what all that means for our temps? Things are going way below normal, again…
This is one ugly weather month we have going.
Make it a great Monday and take care.
Darned blackberries unleashing that voodoo stuff…..
lol.
Big time blackberry winter! Have a great Monday everyone.
The morning low is 6 degrees warmer than yesterday thankfully no frost either day.
Usually I’m complaining about cool weather, minus the times where I get sick from drastic weather changes, I’m actually enjoying it. I dread the heat later this summer
Thanks Chris. I guess Mother Nature is just playing catch up from the warmer winter days we had. Anyway, those blackberries are gonna be really juicy this year for sure! 😉 Have a great Monday everyone!
Blackberry perserves and for those of us who imbibe, blackberry wine. 😉
We did have an “official” frost in Lexington this morning with a temp of 36. The average last frost is April 27th, so this isn’t that late compared to average. For perspective the latest frost on record is May 27th, the latest freeze on record (32 or lower) is May 20th, and the latest hard freeze on record (28 or lower) is May 10th.
Will be interesting to see how “cool” May ends up compared to average. We have been on a streak of way above normal months–perhaps this month will break that streak in a big way!
