Good Tuesday, everyone. After one amazing run of warm temps, Old Man Winter is about ready to flex a little March muscle in the coming days. It’s a cold pattern taking shape and it will bring several snow chances to the bluegrass state.
Let’s start with today and look ahead. Morning showers may still be going across the east, but will quickly work out of the state…
Better weather quickly blows in here with some sunshine and 50s. Winds will be gusty and could reach 40mph or greater through the afternoon. This comes ahead of a HUGE upper level low to dive in here from the northwest. This is one deep system settling in for the next few days…
Underneath that system comes a lot of cold air and rounds of snow showers…
Light accumulations are possible, especially in the mountains of eastern Kentucky…
Temps are much colder than normal, and with gusty winds, wind chills may drop into the teens at times over the next several mornings.
Ouch.
Another rain and snow maker then works in here late Friday into Friday night…
A swath of accumulating snow may occur on the northern edge of that system.
After a break on Saturday, another system moves our way on Sunday. The models go back and forth on just how strong this thing can get. We are walking a fine line between a fully phased storm and one that misses the connection. The new GFS brings one heck of a storm our way…
The European Model is now way south and east…
Go Euro! 😉
I will have updates later today, so check back. Have a good one and take care.
Thanks, Chris! #teamspring indeed seems to be on the ropes 🙁 . #teamspring needs to respond with a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick!
Skywarn storm spotter c-l-a-s-s-e-s are continuing across the area, including by the Jackson KY office of the NWS:

West Virginia is having a tornado drill this morning at 10am which is part of Severe Weather Awareness Week in WV.
Also, by way of reminding the readers here, even if one is not able to attend a scheduled event, I know our Louisville NWS invites ones to at least view the online modules to help all of us to become more weather-aware and safety conscious. If anything, the presentation is fairly basic but highly informational. Here is a presentation from last year given to ones in Kansas called Storm Fury on the Plains…

Thanks Chris. Would love to see s smack down snow storm, but not this close to spring! I remember when I was a lot younger we had some big snows in March. Hopefully this won’t be one of them. Have a great day everyone
I remember just 3 years ago in March we had the biggest snow storm I have ever personally experienced as an adult – 15″. I broke my arm after shoveling my Mom’s driveway falling on ice and became a sworn enemy of winter.
#teamsummer
For my area i remember flooding rains then maybe an inch of snow. We were cut off from town about 2 days because of the river flooding.

Ok I’m ok with all the cold now. I hate cold weather, but better to scour all this cold stuff out now and lessen the chance of a freeze after planting. Maybe when it’s time for Spring, warm will be here to stay.
