Good Monday, folks. A significant winter storm is impacting much of Kentucky to start the day. This is putting down a tremendous amount of heavy, wet snow into parts of the region, and is causing all kinds of travel issues. It’s a storm we have tracked for nearly a week, putting out a Winter Storm THREAT well in advance to get you ready for the impact.

Some areas will pick up 6″ to 10″ of wet snow before the storm pulls away early today, but the winter weather isn’t finished with us just yet. A few snow showers and flurries will filter back in here this evening and tonight, but a much more pronounced snow shower/squall maker moves in later tomorrow.

This system from late Tuesday into Tuesday night can put down some light accumulations…

Once we get past Wednesday, much milder air will begin to take over. That will also bring some showers and thunderstorms our way into the weekend and that may kick off another VERY active and wet period. Let’s hope the 2 week rain totals from the GFS aren’t anywhere close to verifying…

We will get into all that later today. For now, let’s track the major winter storm…
