Good Sunday and Happy Easter! March was one of the wildest months you are ever going to find, but April may give it a run for its money. Old Man Winter and Spring continue to wage an epic battle, with winter continuing to have the upper hand, given the time of year we are in.
Morning showers will be noted today as a cold front slows down on top of us. We will squeeze a few dry hours into the mix, but a wave of low pressure works in here by the evening. That cranks up widespread rain, with the potential for a mix of rain and snow in the north tonight. That’s where some light accumulations will be possible.
This is a potent, but fast-moving system…
Here are the tracking tools to start the day…
That system is out of here by Monday morning, but some lingering showers remain ahead of a warm front. That lifts northward with mild air flooding in from the southwest. That sets the stage for a very windy and very warm Tuesday. Highs from 75-80 are possible.
A strong cold front moves in Tuesday night, putting an end to the toasty temp talk. Showers and thunderstorms will be accompanied by very gusty winds…
Wednesday may be 30-40 degrees colder than Tuesday, There’s even the chance for a few snowflakes to fly on a northwesterly wind…
Lows by Thursday morning are way down into the 20s, with temps staying below normal for the end of the week. Another winter looking system then rolls into the Ohio Valley to start next weekend…
That’s just… Something. 🙁
I will update things later today, so check back. Have a Happy Easter and take care.
Yeah… it’s something alright. Smh
When you crunch all the numbers for the month, March actually wasn’t that bad. In Lexington, the temperature ended up a couple of degrees below normal, but no where close to a Top 10 coldest March. We had a bunch of snow, but as recently as March of 2015 was snowier, and March of 2014 was colder. The extremely warm February made March seem bad…otherwise it was a slightly cooler than normal month.
Crunch the number of sunny days versus days with precipitation, it was a crappy month.
One interesting tidbit that shows how warm February was! March didn’t crack 70 degrees in either Louisville or Lexington, but February had 80 degree temps in both locations!
For Louisville, not reaching a temperature above 70 degrees for March, this was the first March since 2001 that has happened. Then one has to go back to 1980 when it happened again. Rare event indeed.
Another rare event is when February’s average temperature beats March’s average temperature. It happened at Lexington…
February 44.9
March 43.0
First time that has happened since 1984 and 1960.
Impressive. 1960 is the coldest March on record in Lexington by about 5 degrees!
This crappy weather has to eventually come to an end I would think. Average temps wasn’t far off for March, but decent stretches of good weather could not be found. Yesterday was a pretty good day, but hitting another stretch of one good day followed by two or three bad days. I’m ready for a prolonged stretch of sunshine and warmth.
Thanks Chris. Wonder what it’s going to take to get us out of one good day and then three crappy ones? Glad we have some dry today but I have yard work that I can’t get it dry enough to do! I know I am not alone in wanting some nice weather. Hopefully we will get some sooner rather than later. Happy Easter everyone! He is risen!
