Good Monday to one and all. Old Man Winter is paying anther visit to the bluegrass state early today, but spring throws some haymakers later this week. That said, the pattern for the rest of April looks to continue to epic battle between winter and spring. That spells a lot of active weather for our region.
This morning’s flakes can leave behind some light accumulations, but that will quickly go away by late morning into the afternoon. That’s when temps climb into the upper 40s and low 50s, with a mix of sun and clouds.
The chill continues on Tuesday and I can’t rule out isolated showers.
Wednesday is a transition day as winds become southwesterly. That boosts the numbers into the 60s, with the 70s surging in on Thursday. Temperatures make a run at 80 degrees by Friday as southwest winds really crank.
That’s ahead of a powerhouse of a system rolling slowly across the plains and into our part of the world. That has the looks of a severe weather maker for a large chunk of real estate…
Colder weather comes in behind this, but a quick rebound is likely early next week. Still, we are seeing the cold shots outweighing the warm shots through the rest of the month.
The GFS Ensembles 5 day temp departures from April 19-24th are impressive…
The CFS average temp anomalies for the rest of April as a whole are not good…
The more things change, the more they stay the same. 🙁
Speaking of staying the same, let’s get back to tracking the in and out flake system to start your Monday…

I will have another update later today. Make it a good one and take care.
Did you get any snow Jimbo? Mostly rain in Harlan but did mix with wet snow. Gurrr…bring on warmth please.
I think we know the answer…..
Surprisingly, did get about an inch. I think that is the most since the 4 inch clipper back in early January. I wouldn’t have known if I hadn’t woke up at 6 cause it was gone 10.
Thanks Chris for the update. Could we be going into a weather situation where there isn’t any spring or summer ? The trees around my area are as dormant as they were in March. If this current weather pattern continues through the rest of April and into May, this may go down in the records as the year without spring. Have a great day everyone.
Fellow teachers in my school are just saying how it seems like we are still mid year with all this snow!!! Time is standing still as far as the weather is concerned and it’s a real bummer.Thinking Shroeder is correct with the “no more spring” idea. Geeez……..
Looks like things will finally get back to normal and dry out after today.. Everyone enjoy.
Based on the models so far, looks like the bad stuff splits to our north and south as it enters Kentucky- for now, anyway.
yes…that makes me happy!
Thanks Chris. We had some light rain but no snow which is fine with me. Right now it is partly cloudy and a balmy 46 degrees. The weather in Cleveland was a bit better than ours over the weekend. It flurries around yesterday morning but Saturday was old but a beautiful day. Yesterday wound up fairly nice too. Looking forward to the warm up. Hope it will decide to stay! Have a great rest of the day everyone.
Lexington has recorded two out of three days with record snowfall totals. 0.6 inches on April 7 and 0.8 inches on April 9. That makes this the 9th snowiest April on record, and the snowiest since 1996.
With the exception of a whole lot less snow and a warmer February this year, the overall weather pattern is very similar to 1996. I remember snow showers during the last week of April in 1996, although no accumulation, combined with a freeze. Even May of 1996 was chilly from my memory. I hope this May will be warm.
After this morning’s little snowfall I finally climbed into double digits. Slightly more than last year but still way below normal again.
See below as the post was for you.
Right at a measly 8 inches of snow for the long, but unfruitful 2017-2018 winter season☹
Now make it end please! ☺
