Good Saturday, everybody. We’ve made it to the final weekend of a cold April, and the cold is still stealing the headlines. A Green Thumb ALERT is out for tonight and early Sunday for frost and a possible light freeze. Once this cold shot passes, we are skipping spring and going straight into early Summer temps for a few days. 🙂

A weak cold front is dropping into the region, bringing gusty winds and the smallest chance for a stray shower. Winds are very gusty, with temps ranging from the mid 50s to low 60s for highs, depending on where you are across the state.

The chilly winds calm down tonight, allowing frost to form across much of Kentucky. Temps may drop below freezing for a few hours, allowing for a light freeze…

Make sure to cover your tender plants and vegetation.

The rest of Sunday looks awesome with full sunshine. That sun won’t do a whole lot to boost temps, with highs in the upper 50s and low 60s for much of the region. That’s still more than 10 degrees colder than normal.

Monday morning may feature one more shot of patchy frost, then southwesterly winds begin to do their thing. Highs that afternoon reach the 70s, with 80 possible by Tuesday.

A strong southwesterly wind flow will then boost temps into the 80s for Wednesday and Thursday. You will notice an increase in humidity levels, leading to the possibility of scattered storms. The storm threat will then ramp up later in the week as a trough sweeps in from the west…

Strong to severe storms are possible as this system moves in. The timing on this is critical for the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby. Right now, there’s, at least, the chance for some storms. I will fine tune in the coming days.

Guess what may come in behind that for the second week of May? How about another shot of below normal temps…

Sigh.

I will have another update later today. Have a good one and take care.
