Good Saturday, folks. Our Mother’s Day Weekend is underway with rounds of showers rolling across the Commonwealth. This isn’t wall to wall rainfall, with several dry hours showing up, but some locally heavy rains are possible. In addition to the showers, cooler than normal temps are a good bet.
Today will feature showers across the south and east to start, with mainly dry weather farther west and north. Late day showers will increase from southwest to northeast and that can become heavy at times tonight. Here are today’s trackers…
Additional rain rolls across central and, especially, eastern Kentucky for Mother’s Day. Southeastern parts of the state may get enough rain to cause local high water issues.
All of this unsettled weather is coming from a highly anomalous system moving through the eastern half of the country. This is something you see more in the winter months…
That cooler than normal air lasts into the middle of next week, which will also be our next threat for a shower or thunderstorm.
Temps rebound to near normal later in the week into next weekend, but the cool air may not be too far away to our north. That could turn us wet again…
That would certainly keep temps from warming up for very long. As a matter of fact, the CFS has the next month skewing colder than normal for much of the country…
Have a great Saturday and take care.
Tired of this garbage weather.
I will definitely take those colder than normal temps for the next month. I just hope the trade off to get them isn’t constant rain.
It almost certainly will be.
Yeah, only a ton of rain would equal a cool June!
I am not buying into the cool just yet but current pattern is favorable, if it locks in. We just started an epic winter pattern with all oscillations on board….sad it took until May:(
Me too! Jimbo
I would like winter to be what winter is supposed to be and summer what it’s supposed to be. You shouldn’t be wearing light jackets at night in June. You shouldn’t have to constantly heat your pool in July and August. It shouldn’t rain over 50% of the year. Just give me a true summer of some hot dry stretches. A winter with more than a 1/2 inch total of snow. Just something close to normal. Kentucky weather is in a rut.
We are on pace down in our far SE KY counties with last year still for another 20 inch plus average year, but it hasn’t been as wet since late February lately. I think we get creamed this weekend, however, with some hefty numbers for us far SE KY folks. I am inching closer to the 30 inch annual-to-date rainfall! That is pretty incredible considering we are less than 5 months through the year! I bet we top over 70 again if we have a wet summer which looks very likely right now!
Unfortunately, all of the oscillations are finally favorable for below average temps and above average precip….it just took until May! This would be an epic winter pattern coming up. 4 months too late…boo and his but enjoy the cool:)
Terry, this weather pattern could continue into the coming Autumn and Winter. Tons of SNOW for all of us.
Yeah, that is a stretch this early, but one never knows.
Look at it this way, it cant be any worse than this past winter for 2020 unless we get 0 flakes period like Florida usually receives. Even parts of the Gulf had more snow than the LOWER elevations in SE KY this year. HORRIBLE but lets forget the past misery and try to enjoy this upcoming summer/fall:)
On July fourth, 1968 we were all wearing sweaters and jackets at our family picnic.
I wasn’t born then but do remember some chilly evenings here and there over the years. Last few haven’t been excessively hot; however, the humidity has been way up there!
This bleepity Bleep is getting old!
The models have been over estimating rainfall totals in Louisville this week.
We are getting slammed in Harlan though. I received a quick inch and looks like at least 1 or 2 more over the next several hours!
Pouring the rain here. Looks like we are again in the cross hairs for heavy rain in SEKY.
