It continues to look more and more like\u00a0a blast of winter weather comes\u00a0screaming into town just in time for Halloween. The models are doing what we said would happen several days ago&#8230; trend back to what they were showing from a week away.<\/p>\n<p>The GFS now matches the European Model in showing the potent upper level system diving right on top of us Friday and Saturday&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/GFS21.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11403\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/GFS21.png\" alt=\"GFS\" width=\"837\" height=\"305\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/GFS21.png 837w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/GFS21-300x109.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 837px) 100vw, 837px\" \/><\/a>If the models are accurate with the intensity and track of that system&#8230; it could be pretty wild around here. That would create a tremendous amount of wind and crashing temperatures to go along with rain and some snow. I&#8217;ve even seen similar situations produce thunder and lightning.<\/p>\n<p>The GFS shows no shortage of precipitation across the region&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/GFS-224.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11402\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/GFS-224.png\" alt=\"GFS 2\" width=\"566\" height=\"627\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/GFS-224.png 566w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/GFS-224-270x300.png 270w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 566px) 100vw, 566px\" \/><\/a>IF things work out like that\u00a0run\u00a0suggests&#8230; rain would mix with and change to snow in many areas Friday evening into Saturday morning.\u00a0The models continue to target the mountains of southeastern Kentucky with the best chance at seeing flakes and some accumulations&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/GFS-312.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11404\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/GFS-312.png\" alt=\"GFS 3\" width=\"564\" height=\"468\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/GFS-312.png 564w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/GFS-312-300x248.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 564px) 100vw, 564px\" \/><\/a>None of this is set in stone by any means, but my confidence in a taste of winter is increasing. Odds favor the first flakes of the season, at least, falling in our region Friday night and Saturday morning. Can it turn into something a little more?
