.Good Monday, everyone. We have a huge drop in temps sweeping across the bluegrass state today. Thermometers by the late afternoon\u00a0will be some 30 degrees colder than how they started the day. Some areas are also likely to see a wintry mix of precipitation later today into tonight.<\/p>\n

If day one of December is any indication on how the rest of the month will go… buckle up.<\/p>\n

A few thoughts on today:<\/p>\n

– The cold is surging in from west to east with most areas in the 30s by the late afternoon hours.<\/p>\n

– Winds will be very gusty and that will make it feel even colder.<\/p>\n

– Rain will add to the chill and make it a very raw day out there.<\/p>\n

– As temps continue to drop, a wintry mix will be possible across the west and then along and north of the Interstate 64 corridor. This could lead to some light accumulations of frozen stuff that could cause a few slick spots overnight.<\/p>\n

This front then puts the brakes on across our region and that’s likely to lead to some big temperature differences. Those will show up from north to south and from one day to another. The new NAM says the cold doesn’t get bullied around too much on Tuesday…<\/p>\n

It even shows the chill hanging on into Wednesday…<\/p>\n

Those numbers will likely be too cold, but you get the idea on what I’m talking about with the temps.<\/p>\n

This setup will lead to rounds of rain rolling across Kentucky through the upcoming weekend. I wouldn’t be surprised to see many areas pick up 1″-3″ of rain over the next week. This is a very wet pattern taking shape for the first half of the month as we transition back into a true wintry period later this month.<\/p>\n
