The first snow maker of the year is moving through the eastern half of the state today. This has actually been a pretty well behaved system since we first started talking about it this past Monday. Snows will break out quickly overnight and carry us into early Saturday afternoon.

Here is my last call for snowfall…

A Winter Weather Advisory is out for parts of southeastern Kentucky. For the first snow of the season and given the amounts being forecast… this advisory should have included many more counties. With temps below freezing as it is snowing… slick spots on area roads will be likely.

A few thoughts about the rest of the forecast…

1. Sunday looks cold but good.

2. Monday will see a batch of light wintry precipitation working eastward across the area.

3. A much bigger system will roll into the Ohio Valley by later Tuesday into Wednesday. This storm may bring a wintry mix on the front end then change to rain then back to wintry stuff. A “lakes cutter” is not a very likely scenario given the amount of arctic air that will be ahead of this storm. What is more likely is that a low tracks into the region or to our south then transfers energy to a coastal storm along the mid atlantic. This may spell trouble for UK fans (like me) going to New York City next Wednesday.

– Arctic air pours in for the end of next week as we see a bowling ball pattern developing where lows track west to east. This can be a very fun pattern!

Help out your fellow bloggers by posting the weather where you live! I will update things as I can later today so check back. Until then… take care.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Good Saturday everyone! The first snow maker of the year is moving through the eastern half of the state today.
