This has been the most incredible run of wild temperatures I can ever remember around here and we aren’t through yet. We touch on the crazy temps, take a look at where we go from here and show you a busy tropics.

Today will make 4 in a row with record low high temps across parts of the state as temps head into the low to mid 60s across the central and east. Normal highs are in the low 80s for this time of year and this cool spell comes on the heels of a record setting heat wave that got September started off. This is an unprecedented cool pattern for so early in the season.

Really think about this for a second… we go from setting record highs in the upper 90s and low 100s for three straight days to a streak of 4 straight with setting record low high temps. All of this in the SAME week! Impressive is an understatement for this extreme temp pattern.

Where do we go from here? The headlines provide some answers…

– Today will feature the upper level low spinning across the Ohio Valley with more clouds and scattered showers. Highs will be back in the low and mid 60s for many with the west into the 70s with some sunshine.

– Friday will see us TRYING to come out of this nasty weather with a few more rays of sun poking through the clouds. This instability will try to fire up some afternoon or evening shower and thunderstorm action. Highs should range from near 70 in the north and east to upper 70s west.

– The weekend will continue to see this upper level low weakening out. Saturday will still have the chance to crank up some scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon hours as temps return to the low and mid 70s. Sunday should see a mix of sun and clouds as temps continue to warm into the mid and upper 70s. The west will see some low 80s over the weekend.

– The weather for early next week looks similar to Sunday.

– A cold front arrives on the scene from the north on Tuesday into Wednesday with an increase in showers and thunderstorms. This front may also usher in another bout of cooler than normal temps.

You can see this well on the GFS temp departure map for next Thursday…

The GFS Ensembles are pointing in the same direction…

We will also be watching all the action in the tropics into next week as this may play a part on the overall weather patten across North America.
