April is here and this first day of the month is known for all sorts of practical jokes. April Fool’s Day holds a special place in my heart since I am quite the jokester. The blog will spare you any jokes today as some of my forecasts are comical enough!

If you are a Kentucky Wildcat fan… today is a GREAT DAY! It’s the day we meet the new Coach of UK basketball… John Calipari. The blog has managed to find some video of the trip up from Memphis Tuesday…

Now THAT is what I call a wild ride folks!! I see Mitch Barnhart stole my dance moves.

Wildcat fans are all probably doing a little dance today and why not. UK basketball is back baby and the brand new UK shirt that is now available to the public says it all…

GO BIG BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since this is a weather blog… I guess we should talk some about the weather. We have a ride ahead of us that looks an awful lot like the coaches trip… wild! It is an active pattern that is going to continue over the next few weeks and one that is likely to grow MUCH colder meaning old man winter may not be done with us just yet.

A quick moving system will zip off to our east today taking any early morning showers with it. Skies will rapidly become partly to mostly sunny allowing for temps to warm toward the lower 60s. Winds will be rather gusty at times.

The next storm will be moving in later Thursday into Friday and continues to look like it will be a potent system. Clouds will increase Thursday with showers and thunderstorms will develop from west to east during the day. Ahead of the rains… temps can hit the lower 70s. Take a look at just how potent this system is…

GFS Thursday Evening

The path of that low can bring the threat for severe thunderstorms into parts of our region with the best chance being across central and western Kentucky. Here is the latest severe weather outlook from the SPC…

As the low goes by to our north… winds will really crank up and colder air will spill in from the northwest meaning highs on Friday may struggle to get into the lower 50s with showers continuing.

GFS Friday Morning

That is not a good looking start to the weekend. The good news is that Saturday and Sunday actually look pretty good right now. Saturday will start with temps near freezing and warm close to 60 under sunny skies. Sunday’s temps will make a run toward the 70s before clouds increase ahead of our next storm.

Showers and thunderstorms will develop quickly later Sunday and Sunday night ahead of this storm. It’s a storm that will bring a taste of winter back into the area…

GFS Monday Afternoon

Wow… that looks nasty! That is a setup that can bring a light snowfall Monday night. Notice I say CAN… if it works out like the models say it will.

Next week as a whole makes me want to head south… way south as the pattern takes on an almost wintry look for much of the country…

GFS Thursday April 9th

That’s all I have for you this go around my friends.
