Good evening everyone. Just dropping by for another update for you on the developing winter storm that will be rolling our way Monday night Through Wednesday with a possible second system for Thursday. I have been making my thoughts clear in recent days that the potential is there for a big time snow and ice event across the entire region. The models are still waffling a bit as you would expect… but the trend is clear that Kentucky is likely to be in the middle of a significant winter storm.

Instead of me doing the talking here… let’s see what the NWS HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL PREDICTION CENTER  has to say about it…

Chance of 4″+ snows Monday night\/Tuesday

DAY 3…

SOUTH CENTRAL PLAINS THROUGH LOWER OH VALLEY…
POTENTIAL DANGEROUS WINTER WEATHER SCENARIO <\/STRONG>IS SHAPING UP ACROSS A
PORTION OF THE THE CENTRAL U.S. FROM OK TO WV ON MONDAY NIGHT AND
TUESDAY.  THE ELONGATED TROUGH WILL STRETCH ACROSS VIRTUALLY THE
ENTIRE CONUS WITH A SIGNIFICANT PIECE OF VORT ENERGY EJECTING FROM
THE 4 CORNERS THAT WILL SLOWLY RIDE THE PATHLENGTH OF THE TROUGH.
VV FIELDS WILL BE STRONG ACROSS THE ENTIRE REGION AS A 185+KT JETS
DEVELOPS WITHIN THE TROUGH.  AS THE FLOW BCMS MORE SW…GULF
MOISTURE WILL BECOME INVOLVED WITH THE SYSTEM…AND PERSISTENT
OVERRUNNING WILL OCCUR ALONG\/NORTH OF THE BOUNDARY SEPARATING THE
ARCTIC AIR MASS.  COMPLEX THERMAL PROFILE WILL ENSURE MIXED
P-TYPES…BUT MODELS ARE CONVERGING ON THE IDEA OF .50-.75 INCH
ICING FROM NORTHEAST OK TO CENTRAL TN…AND POSSIBLE A GREAT AREA
OF AROUND .25 INCH ICE.  IMMEDIATELY NORTH OF THE BOUNDARY WILL BE
AN AXIS OF HEAVY SNOW.   

I will put together a “first call” map later tonight so check back.

BTW… my “light snow streak” call is actually looking pretty good right now for later Sunday… especially across northern Kentucky.
