I want to start off by saying a big thank you to everyone for helping me out by posting the weather conditions in your hometown. This truly is a weather community for the state of Kentucky and I am glad we keep building on something we started almost 5 years ago in Lexington. You guys rock!

Overall… I am very pleased with the way the storm played itself out across the area. I first issued this map early Tuesday outlining the area I had under a Winter Storm Threat…

That worked out like a charm as the area with the greatest threat picked up anywhere form 1″-6″ of snow. Lee county seemed to be ground zero for the snows with reports of 4″-6″ being rather common there. We had talked about there being a very sharp cutoff to the northern and western extent of the accumulating snows and that worked out well too. Sorry central Kentucky… We will work on making up for being left out. Don’t feel bad… I only got a half inch at my house. <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/emoticons\/sad.png\" border=\"0\" \/>

I started blogging about this storm threat last weekend. The models were ALL well east of us, but with the famed northwest trend of the lows… we said to be on guard for that. It happened and this is the result.

I want to touch on a popular comment and email topic I have been getting. That is the blown forecasts from other sources with this storm that were occurring even as the snow was accumulating. Look… these people have to defend their own forecasts and why they missed this. If you have questions of them… don’t be afraid to shoot them some emails and ask them to explain. I will say one thing about it all, though. There is something fundamentally wrong with how some NWS folks go about putting a forecast together. Notice I say SOME…. not all of them. That’s all I have on that. <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/emoticons\/smile.png\" border=\"0\" \/>

Let’s get to some of your snow pics from this winter storm…

Footprints in the snow courtesy of Michael S in Pulaski County…

Megan in Carter County has a simple note for the bloggers…

Chastity in Laurel County gives us a star wars snow pic…

Here is a good iphone shot of the snow starting out in Salyersville from my buddy Kelly (Whitey <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/emoticons\/wink.png\" border=\"0\" \/>)

Sticking with the hair color theme… our next pic comes from Blondie in Lincoln County…

That is just a sampling of our latest taste of winter weather here in the bluegrass.

A few snow showers and flurries will be flying by today as temps stay in the low 30s in most areas for highs. It is still looking like a bit of a warm up for Sunday and Monday ahead of our next surge of arctic air that will fight in Monday night and Tuesday with the threat for wintry weather.

The middle and end of next week across the country is going to be wild… again. We will see a HUGE temp gradient from north to south that will likely see a 100 degree spread. Guess what… we will likely be stuck on the fence for more snow and ice threats into the end of next week. Yay… can’t wait for more tough forecasts.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/emoticons\/wink.png\" border=\"0\" \/> BTW… the models are going to REALLY struggle with the handling of this incredible temp setup next week so don’t buy any model or any solution you see right now.

I will update the look ahead later today. Until next time… take care.
<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Good Friday morning gang.
