There is not a whole lot of change that I have for you since my last update. Things appear to be coming together for a low pressure to track across the area Sunday with mainly rain. Colder air moves in for Sunday night and Monday with a decent amount of backlash snows developing across the region.

The European model continues to be solid as a rock with the forecast and looks to be the superior model in forecasting this storm. Here it is…

SUNDAY EVENING

MONDAY EVENING

That is basically the scenario I described above! The GFS is starting to look a lot like the European…

SUNDAY EVENING

MONDAY MORNING

MONDAY EVENING

Our biggest problem with this storm is that we don’t have a whole lot of REALLY cold air to work with once the low goes by. We will likely see rain changing to snow from west to east Sunday night with snow and snow showers continuing into Monday. Temps Monday will be in the low to even mid 30s so any accumulation would be slushy. Temps do crash into the low to mid 20s Monday night as snow showers continue. This is the time I expect the best chances for accumulations. I cannot see anything more than 1″-3″ of snow at the absolute max as of right now. Could this change? Sure as we may get some Lake Michigan moisture in here that would help enhance the snows.

Highs Tuesday could stay in the upper 20s in many areas… especially if we have snow on the ground.

While all this is still a few days away… I reserve the right to “massage” the forecast as needed!

Once we get rid of this system… LOOK OUT BELOW! Our first true taste of arctic air is coming for the end of the week. Now… we have been WELL below normal for the past 2 weeks without any arctic air at all. Imagine what we can do once it gets into the region!

The arctic front should be arriving on the scene late Wednesday or Thursday. The GFS is much faster with the front and has it in here Wednesday evening…

That would be a nice little rain to snow event around here. The European model is about a half day slower with the front and plows it through here early Thursday. Check out the arctic cold on this map…

You get the idea… BRRRRRRRRR! The computer generated temps coming from the models for the end of next week are going to take a pounding. This is for both the raw numbers and the MOS. Look for them to trend MUCH colder in the coming days.

This front is the first step in setting the stage for a potential no holds barred wintry pattern for much of the country. The arctic air will be around as the southern branch of the jet stream becomes VERY active meaning winter storm threats could be plentiful. The first such system may be knocking on our door next weekend.

Well… I have written more than I had intended. I am long winded on tv and apparently in blogging too.

Several updates will be coming through the weekend so be sure to check back.

Take care and GO BIG BLUE!!!!

Good Morning everyone and thanks for blogging with me.
