A round of light showers is working across the bluegrass state today. This is all part of a very active pattern setting up across the country. It&#8217;s a pattern likely to throw a big system our way late this weekend into early next week. It&#8217;s also one trying to take on much more of a winter look. This is a lengthy post so settle in!<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s showers won&#8217;t pack much of a punch as they work through here. Temps should be able to get back into the 50-55 degree range for many. If the showers are a little wimpier than I expect, temps could end up being a tad milder.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/sirocco.accuweather.com\/nx_mosaic_640x480_public\/sir\/inmaSIRKY_.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/builder.zoomradar.net\/zoomradar_weather_map\/weather_page.php?key=dlFZs5IY4VCw7bK\" width=\"560\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" seamless=\"seamless\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Thursday&#8217;s weather looks absolutely gorgeous with mild temps and a mix of sun and clouds. Those clouds will thicken a bit on Friday as even milder air fights in from the south and southwest. That could lead to a few showers to start the wild weekend&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/GFS10.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16590\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/GFS10.png\" alt=\"GFS\" width=\"391\" height=\"205\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/GFS10.png 391w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/GFS10-300x157.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 391px) 100vw, 391px\" \/><\/a>That mild air then surges in here with near record high temps on the way for Saturday and Sunday. The high temps from the GFS are probably under cooked&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/GFS-TEMPS-11.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16591\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/GFS-TEMPS-11.png\" alt=\"GFS TEMPS 1\" width=\"521\" height=\"712\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/GFS-TEMPS-11.png 521w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/GFS-TEMPS-11-220x300.png 220w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 521px) 100vw, 521px\" \/><\/a>If there is any sunshine on either of those days&#8230; 70 degree high temps are a strong possibility.<\/p>\n<p>This leads us to the big storm system rolling in for late\u00a0Sunday and Monday. This thing looks like a wind machine that may produce a low-topped line of thunderstorms sweeping eastward across the state. High winds could cause some issues and that&#8217;s the main thing to watch for with this storm.<\/p>\n<p>Temps also drop some 30 degrees from Sunday into Monday as that system passes by.<\/p>\n<p>Another system looks to work in quickly by the middle of next week. The same model run for Christmas eve&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/GFS-Temps.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16598\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/GFS-Temps.png\" alt=\"GFS Temps\" width=\"589\" height=\"489\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/GFS-Temps.png 589w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/GFS-Temps-300x249.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 589px) 100vw, 589px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If we look at the analog years to the current run of the GFS&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Analogs.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16599\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Analogs.png\" alt=\"Analogs\" width=\"624\" height=\"343\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Analogs.png 624w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Analogs-300x165.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 624px) 100vw, 624px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>December 1978 is at the top of the list. I brought up that month a few weeks ago as a possible match and now the computers are seeing it. That December featured many days in the 60s with little snow. It then went on to produce severe cold and snow for January and February.
