Let’s track the winter weather in from the southwest…<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n
Good evening, everyone. I’ve seen nothing today to change my thoughts on what happens with this winter storm. That doesn’t mean those thoughts won’t change at some point tonight, but for now, things are on track for a major winter storm to blast Kentucky.<\/p>\n
A few thoughts:<\/p>\n
– A nasty mix of precipitation moves from south to north tonight into Friday morning. Southern Kentucky can get in on a few hours of sleet and freezing rain that can cause some icy issues.<\/p>\n
– The entire precipitation shield may start as a brief period of sleet before heavy snow takes over.<\/p>\n
– Heavy snow is likely Friday into Friday evening with 1″-2″ snowfall rates per hour for some.<\/p>\n
– Winds gusting from 30mph -40mph will create whiteout conditions at times. Blowing and drifting snow is likely and we could see some huge drifts.<\/p>\n
– Wraparound snows will continue late Friday night into Saturday across central and eastern Kentucky.<\/p>\n
– Blowing and drifting snow may continue even after the snow stops Saturday.<\/p>\n
– Road closures and power outages are possible with this setup.<\/p>\n
– Temps by Saturday night into Sunday morning can go below zero if skies clear over a deep snowpack.<\/p>\n
