Good afternoon, everyone. Our wild weather day rolls on as winter sweeps eastward across the state through the rest of the day. Temps are currently in the 60s in central and eastern Kentucky with low 30s in the west. The 30s win the battle with crashing temps and rain changing to snow.<\/p>\n

We’re still seeing some heavy rain producing showers and thunderstorms ahead of this change. Those downpours can produce some local high water issues.<\/p>\n

A 30 degree drop presses eastward across the state this afternoon and evening. That takes our temps to near freezing with snow breaking out. That snow hangs tough through Thursday on a strong northwesterly wind flow. How much of this will actually stick? There’s no doubt we are fighting a warm ground and will see some melting, but local accumulations of an inch or two are possible. Much of that will be on grassy and elevated surfaces.<\/p>\n

The GFS continues to show the best chance for a wet snowfall…<\/p>\n

If one looks a little closer at the difference between the models, it’s all about the temps. The GFS is a few degrees colder on Thursday than the NAM is, thus has less melting.<\/p>\n
