Good Friday to one and all. Our heat wave rolls on into today as the thunder gets set to roll into the weekend. The boomers will help knock the torrid temps down for a few days as we shift our focus toward the threat for more local severe storms and high water issues.

We are likely to see readings back into the low and mid 90s for many today. Heat index values will be back in the 100-110 range… yada yada yada.

If you are need a virtual break from the heat or a little winter fix, let’s take you to Chile of all places…

Parts of southern Chile are digging out from an amazing 9 feet of snow!!!!! By the way… this storm JUST missed us to the south. What’s 5,000 miles among friends?  

Back here in the amazon… the high humidity levels will remain into the weekend as temps come down several degrees from where we are now. That should stay that way into the start of next week before the heat makes another run at us…



Notice the change showing up by early August. That is a signal that has been popping up for a long while now and it will be interesting to follow. The areas that are the hottest now may go toward milder for August.

The GFS Ensembles show this for the first 5 days of the new month…



Showers and thunderstorms will become a bit more widespread this afternoon and evening and some of these will pack a wallop. Every day this week has featured flash flooding and severe weather across various parts of the state and today should be no different.

The threat for showers and storms will ramp up into Saturday and Sunday. It won’t rain all the time and we will be hot and humid in between rains… just not AS hot. We will watch for tropical rains that can cause more local flash flooding. A few storms will go severe with damaging winds the main threat.
