We have a very active weather day taking shape for parts of the bluegrass state. Strong to severe thunderstorms will target central and western Kentucky through the evening hours. This action continues to be part of a busy pattern that may target the region with another round of severe weather later in the week.

Today’s storms will develop across the west and roll to the northeast, with the greatest severe threat this afternoon and evening. Large hail and damaging winds will be the main threats to watch for. A tornado or two can’t be ruled out late in the day.

Here’s the current risk area from the Storm Prediction Center…

Storms will exit the region early Tuesday as temps stay mild.

Another potent storm system then works our way by Thursday into Friday. This comes from a big upper level system slowly ejecting out of the southwest. A surge of warm, moist air will be out in front of this, leading to the potential for strong to severe storms…

That’s a potent look showing up and is one for us to keep a very close eye on. Of course, that’s what we do here on the blog.

Back to today’s severe storms threat… I will have updates as possible and on WKYT-TV starting at 4pm.

I leave you with your tracking tools:

Current Watches

Possible Watch Areas

Enjoy the day and take care.

Good Monday, everyone.
