Much warmer and more humid air will fight in today and set the stage for scattered storms to go up. This looks to be the beginning of the next cycle of stormy weather across the state.

Let’s get this thing started off with the headlines…

– High temps today should head into the mid and upper 80s for central and eastern Kentucky with upper 80s to low 90s in the west. Thunderstorm action and clouds will play a role in what your back porch thermometer says. <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/emoticons\/wink.png\" border=\"0\" \/>

– Did someone say thunderstorms? A few boomers are likely to flare up today and some could contain damaging winds and hail. With a lot of juice in the air… locally heavy rains will be likely in the strongest storms.

– A strong cold front will push our way Wednesday into Thursday and will bring an increase in showers and storms. Severe weather will be a possibility during this time.

– Cooler air will filter in behind the front for later in the week into the weekend. I can’t rule out a shower or storm into Saturday as this will depend on just how far south our front gets.

– The long range call for the rest of the month into early July should feature a continuation of the active pattern we have been in of late. The GFS is likely going a bit overboard with this over the next few weeks. Take a look at the 16 day rainfall forecast…

That is likely to be overdone with the overall scope and it is foolish to take one map like that and proclaim it to be the gospel. Use it as a guide that the model is saying our weather will likely remain active as we should have a nice little connection to moisture coming from the Gulf of Mexico.

You can also look at that map and think it will be hard to get sustained heat into our part of the world.

Are you guys tired of the daily storm tracking toys?
