Heavy rain, gusty winds and falling temps continue to be the weather headlines of the day, but the cold is about to take center stage. It&#8217;s a pattern that continues to look much colder than normal to end October and begin November. I&#8217;m also watching for a bigger weekend system than currently shown on the models.<\/p>\n<p>Many areas have already picked up 1&#8243;-2&#8243; of rain, with some more to go. Low pressure continues to spin across the region, bringing gusty showers through the evening&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/sirocco.accuweather.com\/nx_mosaic_640x480_public\/sir\/inmaSIRKY_.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/builder.zoomradar.net\/zoomradar_weather_map\/weather_page.php?key=9nNfA2mOMDiJ4LG\" width=\"560\" height=\"462\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" seamless=\"seamless\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Temps are dropping through the 50s and into the 40s during the evening hours. Those numbers hang in the low 40s tonight with a recovery into the 50-55 degree range early on Tuesday, but colder air pushes in during the afternoon and evening. That can bring more showers in here&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/?attachment_id=25267\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-25267\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25267\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/GFS-19.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1258\" height=\"476\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/GFS-19.png 1258w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/GFS-19-300x114.png 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/GFS-19-768x291.png 768w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/GFS-19-1024x387.png 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1258px) 100vw, 1258px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The NAM continues to keep plenty of clouds around into Wednesday, thus keeping temps in the low and middle 40s&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/?attachment_id=25274\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-25274\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25274\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/NAM-9.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"552\" height=\"351\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/NAM-9.png 552w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/NAM-9-300x191.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 552px) 100vw, 552px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If skies clear, readings will be closer to 50. Regardless, gusty winds will make it feel much colder.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday starts in the low 30s with temps hitting the 60 by the afternoon. This will be ahead of a strong cold front showing up by late Friday. It will have a stout temperature drop of 20-30 degrees behind the front&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/?attachment_id=25270\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-25270\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25270\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/GFS-2-12.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1258\" height=\"476\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/GFS-2-12.png 1258w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/GFS-2-12-300x114.png 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/GFS-2-12-768x291.png 768w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/GFS-2-12-1024x387.png 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1258px) 100vw, 1258px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can still see how the GFS is trying to get the cold to catch some of the precipitation shield, giving parts of the Ohio Valley a shot at a few flakes&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/?attachment_id=25272\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-25272\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25272\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/GFS-Snow-9.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"453\" height=\"632\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/GFS-Snow-9.png 453w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/GFS-Snow-9-215x300.png 215w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 453px) 100vw, 453px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We know temps are going to be cold this weekend as a deep trough digs in&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/?attachment_id=25271\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-25271\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25271\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/GFS-3-9.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"356\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/GFS-3-9.png 356w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/GFS-3-9-247x300.png 247w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 356px) 100vw, 356px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Notice the storm system along the east coast. That&#8217;s from the GFS and it sometimes is too far east with this type of system. This system may actually have a bit of a tropical connection from a disturbance coming from the Caribbean and up the east coast.<\/p>\n<p>The trend on the European Model is for much more interaction between the cold trough and that system coming up the east coast&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/?attachment_id=25278\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-25278\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25278\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Euro-2-7.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1258\" height=\"1476\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Euro-2-7.png 1258w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Euro-2-7-256x300.png 256w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Euro-2-7-768x901.png 768w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Euro-2-7-873x1024.png 873w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1258px) 100vw, 1258px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The European Model would be a VERY nasty weekend with cold temps, gusty rains, with the potential for some flakes to fly&#8230; Especially in the mountains of eastern Kentucky. That could be a big high mountain snow maker across the Appalachian Mountains. We will need to watch for a western trend in the coming days.<\/p>\n<p>You\u00a0can see a similar trend \u00a0on the Canadian, which is also more wrapped up and farther west with it than the GFS&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/?attachment_id=25275\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-25275\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25275\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/canadian-2-4.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"786\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I may throw out another update this evening.
