We have a chilly weekend underway across the bluegrass state. As a matter of fact, things are starting off downright frigid for many. Now we track clouds and an increase in showers by later Sunday. The longer range keeps showing a winter look for Thanksgiving week.

Let’s start with where we are today. Temps are deep into the 20s to begin our Saturday, with wind chills in the mid and upper teens. Clouds will filter in through the day, keeping parts of central and eastern Kentucky in the 40s for highs.

Showers move in on Sunday as temps likely stay in the 40s for many areas. This isn’t a lot of rain, but it will dampen things up pretty good into early Monday. You can see the colder air coming in behind this for next weekend. That sets off a pattern featuring a deepening trough across the east for Thanksgiving week. The GFS Ensembles show how the colder than normal temps become entrenched across the region through the big holiday…

That has cold turkey deep into the heart of Dixie. Can we get some winter weather from that type of pattern? Yep… We sure can. Will we? We will have fun tracking the potential over the next week and change.

I will update things later today.
