Old Man Winter is blowing into the bluegrass state over the next few days&#8230; Literally. Winds are going to crank tonight into Tuesday as a powerful cold front crosses the state. From there, it&#8217;s all about tracking arctic shots of air into the country, with the potential for some snow makers showing up.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the front, temps will surge into the 60s today as clouds increase. Those clouds will start to spit out some showers and rumbles of thunder across the west before the afternoon is through&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/sirocco.accuweather.com\/nx_mosaic_640x480_public\/sir\/inmaSIRKY_.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/builder.zoomradar.net\/zoomradar_weather_map\/weather_page.php?key=9nNfA2mOMDiJ4LG\" width=\"560\" height=\"462\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" seamless=\"seamless\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Showers and storms will then increase quickly from west to east tonight and early Wednesday. No one wants to chase Frosty down the street. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Temps tumble behind the front Tuesday afternoon through early Wednesday. The cold is going to try to catch the back edge of the rain shield into far southeastern Kentucky. That MAY lead to a flake or two.<\/p>\n<p>Wind chill temps by Wednesday morning will make it feel around 40 degrees colder than today in some areas&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/?attachment_id=26329\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-26329\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-26329\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/NAM-3-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"776\" height=\"373\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/NAM-3-1.png 776w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/NAM-3-1-300x144.png 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/NAM-3-1-768x369.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 776px) 100vw, 776px\" \/><\/a>Temps on Wednesday are well below normal, but only seasonally cold as the northwesterly flow gets established. This flow will try to throw some flakes in here on Thursday, with a more potent system diving in here Friday into Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The GFS continues to develop one heck of a clipper on top of us, as a big storm rides up the east coast&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/?attachment_id=26335\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-26335\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-26335\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/GFS-8.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1261\" height=\"983\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/GFS-8.png 1261w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/GFS-8-300x234.png 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/GFS-8-768x599.png 768w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/GFS-8-1024x798.png 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1261px) 100vw, 1261px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A tightly wrapped system like that would produce some pretty awesome conditions for winter weather lovers. If we take that particular run verbatim, it would produce convective (thunder?) snows across our region to go along with gusty winds with arctic air moving in.<\/p>\n<p>That would spread accumulating snows across much of the region.<\/p>\n<p>While I am expecting this to produce our first light accumulations, at least, I am nowhere near being able to forecast anything specific. Please read that statement over and over. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>The above system happens as we get all the upper level\u00a0energy diving into the trough to bundle up right on top of us&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/?attachment_id=26341\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-26341\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-26341\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/GFS-GIf-5.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"786\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Canadian is now similar with the look upstairs&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/?attachment_id=26331\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-26331\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-26331\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/canadian.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"786\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The European Model is slowly shedding some it the southwestern bias with upper level energy and is getting closer to the GFS and Canadian&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/?attachment_id=26343\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-26343\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-26343\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Euro-1.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"786\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Give that model a few more runs and see how it looks then.
