Some light snow and flurries continue to push across he region today, in what is likely just a preview of what&#8217;s to come. It&#8217;s an extreme winter pattern taking shape for much of the country, with the exact impacts on our weather still being ironed out.<\/p>\n<p>One thing is for sure&#8230; This pattern is frigid and will be the coldest extended period since the winter of 2013\/14. It might be a good time to winter proof those pipes. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s flakes come at us in streaks from west to east&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/sirocco.accuweather.com\/nx_mosaic_640x480_public\/sir\/inmaSIRKY_.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Some very light accumulations are possible in a few areas.<\/p>\n<p>Arctic air settles in overnight, with single digit lows showing up across northern Kentucky and teens everywhere else. It then turns things so cold, it suppresses the next system&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/?attachment_id=27042\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-27042\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-27042\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/canadian-16.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"786\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Canadian goes absolutely nuts with the cold&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/?attachment_id=27043\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-27043\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-27043\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Canadian-20.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"855\" height=\"565\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Canadian-20.png 855w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Canadian-20-300x198.png 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Canadian-20-768x508.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 855px) 100vw, 855px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is also showing multiple days with temps going below zero.<\/p>\n<p>My take:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bitterly cold temps are very likely through next week. There is an increased threat for temps to go below zero on, at least, one occasion.<\/li>\n<li>This will likely become the <strong>longest<\/strong> <strong>period<\/strong> of bitter cold we&#8217;ve had since 2013\/1014.<\/li>\n<li>Wind chills have a chance to get into the danger category at some point.<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s likely we will put some snow on the ground this weekend. It&#8217;s too early to tell how much we can get.
