As we continue to deal with bitterly cold temperatures, let&#8217;s really start to focus on the potential for a mix and ice coming Sunday and Monday. We&#8217;ve set the stage for this for the past several days, and now it&#8217;s time to try and hone in a little more.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the map I made last night, and it still looks to be in good shape&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/?attachment_id=27295\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-27295\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-27295\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Special-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"679\" height=\"430\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Special-1.png 679w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Special-1-300x190.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 679px) 100vw, 679px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The models are slowly sensing the low-level arctic air is going to be a tough cookie to scour out, but they continue to overdo the temps. It&#8217;s seeing the cold hanging tough and that shows up on the winter weather maps. Lows may make it back into the single digits for the 7 straight day to start the year&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/?attachment_id=27301\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-27301\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-27301\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/GFS-Temps.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"926\" height=\"610\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/GFS-Temps.png 926w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/GFS-Temps-300x198.png 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/GFS-Temps-768x506.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 926px) 100vw, 926px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The NAM then keeps us at or below freezing through much of Sunday night and Monday. Here&#8217;s the 8am Monday temp forecast from the latest run&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/?attachment_id=27305\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-27305\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-27305\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/NAM-4.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"927\" height=\"614\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/NAM-4.png 927w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/NAM-4-300x199.png 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/NAM-4-768x509.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 927px) 100vw, 927px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Given the frozen ground and road temps well below freezing, this has the potential to become a travel nightmare late Sunday into Monday for some areas. Nothing good will come from a frozen ground and air temps within a few degrees of freezing, and precipitation falling.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re planning to travel late Sunday into Monday, please stay alert to this situation.<\/p>\n<p>After that moves out on Tuesday, temps rebound a little with a modified arctic front moving in by Thursday and Friday.
