We have a little break in the winter weather pattern we&#8217;ve been in for most of November, but this isn&#8217;t a quiet break. Showers and storms will combine with high winds to cause some issues as we close November and begin December. Once into next week, winter returns.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s begin with today and roll forward.<\/p>\n<p>Scattered showers and thunderstorms are flaring up across many areas, with the focus mainly across the southern half of the state into the afternoon and early evening&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/builder.zoomradar.net\/zoomradar_weather_map\/weather_page.php?key=9nNfA2mOMDiJ4LG\" width=\"560\" height=\"462\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" seamless=\"seamless\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/sirocco.accuweather.com\/nx_mosaic_640x480_public\/sir\/inmaSIRKY_.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Our next system is a doozy\u00a0and will bring near blizzard conditions to parts of the plains and upper Midwest. This means showers and storms will increase across Kentucky later tonight. Those storms could be a little on the strong side. The Storm Prediction Center has areas just to our southwest highlighted for severe storms as early as this evening&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.spc.noaa.gov\/public\/state\/images\/KY_swody1.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The threat for a few strong\u00a0storms may be noted across Kentucky on Saturday. Here&#8217;s the Severe Weather Outlook from the SPC&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.spc.noaa.gov\/public\/state\/images\/KY_swody2.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Even without thunderstorms, winds are going to be very gusty and may reach 40-50mph at times&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/NAM-2-19.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-32753\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/NAM-2-19.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"903\" height=\"1830\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/NAM-2-19.png 903w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/NAM-2-19-148x300.png 148w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/NAM-2-19-768x1556.png 768w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/NAM-2-19-505x1024.png 505w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 903px) 100vw, 903px\" \/><\/a>Heavy rainfall of 1&#8243;-2&#8243; is possible for some through Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday continues to look very good, but windy. Highs are in the upper 50s and low 60s with partly sunny skies.<\/p>\n<p>Colder air filters in on Monday and I&#8217;m still watching the potential for a light rain to light snow maker. The models aren&#8217;t very enthusiastic with this system right now.. The current GFS has it and produces a light snowfall on Tuesday&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/GFS-3-10.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-32759\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/GFS-3-10.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"786\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The new version of the GFS has some very light snow and snow showers instead&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/GFS-2-27.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-32761\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/GFS-2-27.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"786\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That matches up with what most of the other models are showing&#8230; Snow showers with light accumulations and very cold temps.<\/p>\n<p>This sets the stage for a storm system to take a southern track across the country, then trying to turn up the east coast. The signal has been there a while, but the details are several days away from being known.
