5:25pm Update

Getting reports of a possible tornado touchdown in Muhlenberg county in western Ky.<\/SPAN>

<\/STRONG>
DANGEROUS SITUATION<\/STRONG> taking shape this evening into the overnight! Torrential rain producing showers and thunderstorms are moving across western Kentucky and will move into Central parts of the state over the next few hours. Rainfall rates of 1″-2″ per hour will be possible in some areas.

Flooding is already occurring in many areas and this will only worsen this evening into the overnight. This is a potentially LIFE THREATENING SITUATION<\/STRONG> and you are urged to monitor water levels and the latest forecasts.

The threat for severe thunderstorms will be possible as well. Damaging winds, large hail and tornadoes will be possible. As a matter of fact…  we do have a Tornado Warning for Christian, Muhlenberg, and Todd Counties until 4:30pm CDT

<\/STRONG>Good Sunday and Happy Easter to one and all. Let’s cut to the chase… this is shaping up to be a very dangerous flood event for much of the state over the next several days as rounds of heavy rain and severe storms work over the same areas.

Rainfall amounts through Saturday were approaching 5″ in some areas and there is a whole lot of water yet to fall today and into the next several days. Before we get to the tracking tools… let’s get you caught up on how this looks to unfold.

– A front is stalled out from southwest to northeast along the Ohio River and will the the focal point for waves of heavy rain and storms. Here is the setup…



– The area outlined in red is likely to see MAJOR FLOODING over the next several days. This includes flash flooding and river flooding. Areas within the yellow outline will likely experience flooding.

– How much rain can fall? An additional 5″-10″ will be possible for parts of western and northern Kentucky through mid week. Much lighter amounts will be possible across southeastern Kentucky where little, if any, flooding should occur.

– This is a dangerous situation that can be life threatening so PLEASE take all precautions and stay tuned to local forecasts and be prepared to move to higher ground. Also… NEVER DRIVE THROUGH A FLOODED ROADWAY!!!!

– The threat for strong and severe storms will continue to be with us each day. Damaging winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes will be possible.

– While any day is likely to produce severe storms… the setup from Tuesday into Wednesday is really getting my attention as this could become a widespread severe weather outbreak.
