Good Monday to one and all. We are coming off a VERY beneficial stretch of wet weather across the bluegrass state. it’s one that has put a nice dent in the drought across parts of the state and this week will feature more ways for us to chip away at things. This is a much different pattern than the one we had for most of spring into early summer.<\/p>\n

Just how much rain has fallen over the past week. This is a map showing the 7 day rainfall departure from normal…<\/p>\n

You can see widespread above normal rainfall for much of the bluegrass state. There were a few holes in the north central and west that didn’t fare as well. Overall… this was a heck of a week for rain in Kentucky.<\/p>\n

Where does this put us on the year? Take a look at the rainfall departure for the year…<\/p>\n

The western part of the state is in sad shape with rainfall running 15 to 20 inches below normal. The eastern half of the state isn’t in too bad of shape at the moment and I suspect the drought status improves greatly when the new numbers come out.<\/p>\n

We could all use more rain and we have it in the forecast. The stuff out there today and Tuesday won’t be as concentrated as the action from the past several days. Still… some locally heavy downpours will be likely for a few spots. Temps will flirt with 90 today and head into the 90s for Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Another cold front will drop in here late Wednesday into Thursday and bring more rounds of showers and storms. I do expect more beneficial rainfall with this system and the GFS likes that idea…<\/p>\n

That’s a setup for strong storms and torrential rains. Bring it!<\/p>\n

The pattern over the next few weeks looks like it wants to continue to run on the active side of things around here. Will you complain if that’s the case? I didn’t think so.<\/p>\n
