Hurricane Laura came ashore on the southwest coast of Louisiana as a powerful Category 4 hurricane. The devastation is going to be staggering with a storm surge expected to reach 40 miles inland. As this storm continues to work northward today, it will continue to weaken. By Friday and Saturday, what&#8217;s left of it looks to roll right on top of the bluegrass state.<\/p>\n<p>First things first, let&#8217;s get the latest from the National Hurricane Center&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/storm_graphics\/AT13\/refresh\/AL132020_5day_cone_no_line_and_wind+png\/025357_5day_cone_no_line_and_wind.png\" alt=\"cone graphic\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My overall thinking of the potential impact from this remains pretty much the same as last night&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A general 1\u2033-4\u2033 of rain for many with the potential for locally higher amounts.<\/li>\n<li>Non-thunderstorm winds may be a big player and gust to greater than 40mph at times.<\/li>\n<li>The potential is also there for strong to severe thunderstorms along and ahead of the center of circulation.<\/li>\n<li>If thunderstorms do get into the mix, wind gusts may become a major issue.<\/li>\n<li>A few tornadoes may also spin up.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Speaking of severe weather, here&#8217;s the latest Friday Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.spc.noaa.gov\/public\/state\/images\/KY_swody2.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Hi Res Hurricane Models continue to show a pretty good hit for the bluegrass state&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>HWRF<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/HWRF-5.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-43334\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/HWRF-5.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>HMON<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/HMON-5.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-43333\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/HMON-5.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Friday afternoon and evening may be especially ugly around here, so please stay up to date on how this storm plays out.<\/p>\n<p>After Laura goes through here, we get a cold front to push through by Saturday night, leaving us with a nice Sunday.
