I wanted to drop by for a quick update on the changing pattern that is threatening to get winter off and running next week. Let’s do it all with the headlines.

– Temps in the upper 50s and low 60s will be with us Wednesday and Thursday with a mix of sun and clouds.

– A strong cold front moves in on Black Friday with a gusty band of showers. Temps will start in the 50s before falling into the upper 30s during the evening.

– Cold air will continue to filter in behind this front with highs only in the 30s on Saturday. A few snow flurries will be possible during this time.

– A stronger push of cold air will flow southward into the plains states by Monday. This will spawn a storm system to our southwest. The models diverge on the exact track of this storm with some taking the low right on top of us and a few just to our south. The latest GFS run kind of splits the difference:

– Climatology tells us we should see a stronger low tracking right over us by Tuesday as it cuts toward the eastern Great Lakes. That would give us a rain to snow situation. Again… that’s a week from now so take anything with a grain of salt.

– The long range pattern continues to feature some serious blocking. The European Model is going crazy with the negative NAO by the end of next week…

– The blocking showing up for December can lead to some extreme weather across the eastern half of the country. This looks fun!

Your next update includes a long-standing blog tradition. Who knows what it is?
